New Orleans Saints safety Tyrann Mathieu announced his retirement today from professional football.
Mathieu, 5-9, 190, a New Orleans native and standout at St. Augustine High School, was originally selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the third round (69th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft out of Louisiana State University.
In his 12-year NFL career with the Cardinals (2013-17), Houston Texans (2018), Kansas City Chiefs (2019-21) and Saints (2022-24), Mathieu played in 180 regular season games with 171 starts and recorded 834 tackles (681 solo), 11 sacks, and 36 interceptions.
His 36 picks were second in the NFL among active players upon his retirement.
Mathieu was selected to three Pro Bowls, three AP All-Pro teams and the Pro Football Hall of Fame's 2010's All-Decade Team.

WHAT?
My God time is clicking off fast. 12 years has went by already? I swear I was thinking he had only been the league 5-6 years.

can't believe he already did 12 years

it's a good story
he nearly threw away his entire career
glad he figured things out and carved out a rewarding career while supporting the community he came from

HB was one of the all time greats. Small but could absolutely wreak havoc on the field and turn the momentum of a game in a second.
I’ve been watching HB highlights with my son for 7 years. He plays OLB in JV football. He’s a bit undersized, but it fires him up and gives him hope.
This has been his go to video on game day since he was 7 to get hyped.
I had to turn down the volume on the cussing, but he didn’t know it at the time. Now that he’s old enough, I let it roll.
Enjoy your retirement. You definitely earned it.

Racking up 102 total yards on 9 catches during his pro career.
Norwood had a good game... TM7 had a good career

Honey Badger had 4 times more catches in the NFL than Norwood... As a defender...
