Former Alabama QB Greg McElroy said Monday on @WJOX945 that a "very much in the know person" believes Nick Saban will return to coaching.

"If it wasn't someone notable, I would never say a word," McElroy said on @macandcube.

His Alma mater hasn’t won a game since 2023 and has an interim coach already

Saban to Kent State

It’s what the man does. I once told someone I could see him coaching defensive backs for some Division III school for free at 90.

Saban’s live a very very comfortable life. No worries about financial stability whatsoever.

Why would Nick and Terry want to go back to college football and deal with that bullshite.

He’s got a pretty sweet gig on college game day. And plus the Merc dealerships in Miami and t-town.

It’s a pretty dull and boring offseason so I get the rumors. Need to stir the pot a little

Figured from the start he'd be back eventually just at a lower tier program where there's less stress and BS to deal with.

If he just wants to COACH and not deal with the NiL bullshite then it sounds like he’d be a fine defensive coordinator at Alabama after we have a top 10 defense this year and Womack gets a HC job.

He co-owns a lot more dealerships than that. He's even got a Ferrari dealership in Nashville. I think the owns 4-5 Mercedes dealerships. But once I saw the property he bought in Jupiter Island, and that's a dream retirement pad. Water access on the ocean and the intercoastal. I'd actually feel bad for him if he couldn't enjoy the success he had and enjoy his golden years. But some people just can't stop themselves.

It’s hard to stop doing what you love. I spent nearly 50 years working for newspapers and I am pushing 70 and technically retired but I still string for a paper. Because I still love doing it down to the DNA in my bone marrow and the idea of sitting around doing absolutely nothing is equivalent to hell for me. Maybe Nick is the same way?

I would think a man of his fame and fortune probably stays pretty busy. He’s no longer coaching but I bet he’s a pretty damn good business man also.

His last yr of coaching was rough on him or so it look that way. What he accomplished at Bama is legendary, but that kind of focus and commitment takes its toll when you get in the golden yrs of life. He’s still every bit of sharp in his thinking as he ever was, just the physical aspect of grinding out long days wears you out.

That's why I said I could see him just helping out somewhere, not running a program again. I think at this point in his life he ain't going there. Getting back on the field every now and then, working with kids, scratching the itch, he'd probably be as happy as a pig in slop.

I worry that returning after a year out of the game may be hard for him to recapture the fire plus damn near impossible for him to hire a quality staff.

He'd be better not scratching this itch and risk tarnishing a sterling legacy.

He already said he had trouble hiring staff due to questions about his age.

Don't think it would be any easier being two years older.

He also held part ownership in Tri-Green / John Deer supplier.

This.

He retired as what most consider the GOAT.

Why would you risk that legacy by potentially laying an egg for a couple years and then re-retiring?

Yes, I honestly thought he had 4-5 good years left when he retired...that's about to be 2 seasons ago. I don't see it. Of course Belichick bizarrely took the UNC job. There is no doubt that failing there would effect his overall legacy negatively.

If he comes back I think it would be in the NFL , Assistant coaches there go from team to team ,so easier to assemble a staff. They have an actual off season, so maybe family happy. Who knows ?

I’m beginning to think someone trolled GMac or either he’s trying to be the 21st century Herb Winces. (Old farts like me will know what I’m talking about.)

I don’t remember Herb Winches being overzealous to break stories, but I am a lot younger than you. I remember him getting accused of doing coke in the 80s.

Well Coke could certainly make one overzealous. So I’ve heard

He broke a “major exclusive” one time that led the Channel 6 evening news that the Miami Dolphins were moving to Birmingham.

All that happened was a bunch of egg dripping from his face.
