Why did they choose SEC west and East instead of SEC north and south?

Agreed man that’s what was needed!

South:
LSU
Florida
Alabama
Auburn
Georgia
State

North:
Ole Miss
South Carolina
Kentucky
Tennessee
Vanderbilt
Arkansas

I don’t see any problem at all…..

north and South would’ve been good. But I don’t think East and west was bad. Auburn should’ve been in the East and Vandy in the West. I guess they had to do it the way they did to preserve rivalries

Presumably because none of you wanted to be 'in the North'?

Oxford is North of Starkville. It’s basically a suburb of Memphis. Look at a fricking map.

They wouldn’t split schools from the same state into separate groups.

Also, putting Aub. in the East creates the issue of Ala./Aub. OR Ala./Tn. as perm rivals.

Also, per your post: Vandy/Tn. OR Ala./Tn.?

SEC WON’T separate same-state schools into separate groups!

Why do you think Alabama./Aub. & Tn./Vandy were never separated?

Oh, we would've made it to Atlanta many times if this was our division.

The name SEC South is a bit redundant.

You could argue so is SEC East.

What an absolutely horrid division.

Cool! The North could have gone to Atlanta with 3 and 4 losses every year.

SEC fans don't want to be associated with anything north.

My caffeine hadn't kicked in. But I suppose you had to be redundant regardless and they picked the cardinal direction that isn't the first word and the one the entire conference culturally identifies with a little less. People in the SEC footprint either say they live in the southeast or the south. They rarely say they live in the east. East is a bit of an afterthought.

seems as though LSU would be in the North since it was presided over by the war criminal yank that burned Atlanta and marched to the sea -

The east west was unbalanced enough. A north south split would be the premier league in one div and conference USA in the other
