Question for OU fans (Rivalry related)

I know historically Oklahoma State and texas are your main rivals, but was Nebraska at one point considered a rival too? I read a recruiting article that mentioned OU and Nebraska as rivals and was wondering if Sooner fans agree they qualify.
Was there bad blood back in the 80’s, 90’s, or 00’s when both schools played each other annually?

Back in the day the Oklahoma vs Nebraska game was my favorite non-SEC game. I loved the way Thomas Lott ran the wishbone.

Total sidebar.
Not meaning to hijack this thread but when I was a kid (im 39 now) I used to make a point to watch games like ou vs nebraska, usc vs notre dame, miami vs fsu etc. I dont know if im just old now or is the pageantry just not there anymore. I currently dont give a fvck if oklahoma plays nebraska.

The Scott Frost years kind of made me lose interest in Nebraska football. Those were rough.

I want to see A&M and OU play every year. All my OU friends hate the Aggies and vice versa

I agree
Give me Texas vs Ohio St
Georgia vs Texas
Ohio St vs Georgia
Oregan vs Notre dame in playoffs
Or any top 10 ranked team no matter what over all that old school mess
It doesnt pack the same punch

Is it just me or is Cleveland browns with no logo on helmet bad luck?
I think they would instantly play with more juice if they had a logo
Could be wrong though

It doesn’t pack the same punch bc Nebraska somehow went from a juggernaut in those days to mortal over the course of a few years. When they left the Big 12, I think I read their Texas recruiting pipelines dried up. Never went back to verify if that really happened.
I think Rhule is a good coach, but I don’t know if Nebraska can get the talent to win the Big 10 nowadays.

The rivalry with Nebraska was a rivalry of respect. The winner of that game in most cases won the conference and played in the Orange or Sugar bowls.
Texas is and ALWAYS will be a Hate rivalry. "spits"
oSu "sheep frickers" by most of us are not considered a rivalry.

OU/Nebraska was the biggest game in the Big 8 every year. It's sad that conference realignment is killing/has killed regionality and historic rivalries.

I wanna see LSU and Indiana Hoosers
Play every year since Indianas state is shaped like a boot too and its the same size but only backwards
Plus LSU only holds a two to 1 game series lead all time
First one to 10 wins and denounces the other as the real boot and doesn't make Wisconsin look like a pigeon toed buffoon anymore on the map

That’s because the Big 8 sucked and they were the only two good teams

We’ll never have the same kind of rivalry with Nebraska like we did back in the day before they left for Big 10. We don’t play often anymore and neither of us are juggernauts. I enjoy playing them though but the rivalry isn’t really intense like it used to be. Now it’s going to be the same for Ok State unfortunately. I’m hoping we get to play Aggies on a regular basis now that we’re in the SEC. Should be a fun matchup.

The Big 8 was better than the SEC back in those days. Im old enough to remember. One year Oklahoma,Nebraska, and Colorado finished 1,2,3 in the Country.

Yes, it was a big rivalry because they were the two blue bloods in an 8 team conference. Everyone played each other every year, and NU-OU was played Thanksgiving weekend. It was purely a football rivalry, unlike Texas-OU or OU-OK State.
Move Nebraska to a new conference and the meaning of the rivalry kind of disappeared. If they played every year from 2002 onward, methinks it would’ve been very one sided in favor of the dark red team from the south…
Nebraska did lose its Texas pipeline, but when Nebraska was actually winning National Championships, they didn’t rely on Texas. They recruited nationally because they were a powerhouse, they won 4 national titles in a conference that didn’t have a single Texas team. I’d say their games on the West Coast against UCLA or Washington benefited them more, they recruited California. Frick, some of their best players were from Florida and Jersey
I think OU, however, has always relied on Texas recruits

Nebraska and Texas are our primary rivals. Okie State is an instate rival, but the series between OU and OSU is so lopsided I wouldn't consider it a rivaly.
We also have a little bit of a rivalry with Mizzou, it's more their rivalry because the series between OU and Mizzery is very lopsided too. We don't consider them much of one.
We also have a bit of a rivalry with Miami that stems back to the mid 1980's.
I feel there maybe a rivalry brewing between OU and LSU though.

In the 1960s and 1970s and 1980s,
OU-Nebraska was a huge game.
1971 was an amazing game.
