Since Ohio State's marquee matchup with Texas was announced as a FOX game earlier this month, the athletic department has been working diligently behind the scenes to create the best environment possible for fans at Ohio Stadium.

As it turns out, the graphics from FOX and Ohio State that left off a set kickoff time for that matchup were intentional. The Buckeyes' athletic department requested their Cotton Bowl rematch against Texas Week 1 be moved to prime time on Sunday, either in the late afternoon or evening.

However, according to 247Sports, Texas said no to the request, so the game will remain on Saturday as scheduled. It'll likely be a noon kickoff, but a set time should be officially finalized later this month. From the Longhorns' vantage point, they likely view moving the game a day later to accommodate OSU's desire for a prime time window as only a detriment to their chances of leaving Columbus with a victory.

If the game had been moved to Sunday night, it would have gone against Notre Dame vs. Miami on ABC, but that would have been the only other football game broadcast in that window.

I doubt it as the tv networks make these decisions without clearing with schools

But if true…good

Fox & Ohio State agreed to move it to a night game.
All parties had to agree & Texas pussed out.
They also offered to move it to 3:30pm on Saturday & Texas pussed out.
I guess after what happened in January the Longhorns feel they need all of the help they can get

They wouldn't even agree to a 3:30 kickoff on Saturday,
If Texas had it their way they would play at 6am to an empty stadium.
No guts

Why can't Fox just go toe to toe with Notre Dame-Miami?

So many people stream multiple games at once anyways. A 3:30 is just as lame as an noon kickoff game is. At least at noon kickoff Fox has some sort of following and known for doing primetime games at this time.

Sunday night prime time is ridiculous for college football and glad it was axed.

Texas wants fewer viewers to see them lose.

It would have been stupid to have the game in same time slot as LSU/Clemson.

Texas vetoed a 3:30 Saturday game & an 8pm Sunday game.
You think they would have agreed to a Saturday Night game ?
That would have been the last slot they would have agreed to.
Apparently everything in Texas is bigger, except for their balls

So Texas can tell Fox when to schedule the games they own the rights to? Damn, we are gangster as hell.

Don’t worry, we’ll have Ohio State in the daytime down in Austin next August. Even Steven.

this and the fact that you don't want to be in that area after dark. Made that mistake going to the game in '05 and still the trashiest fan base I've ever encountered.

Do you really think the networks come to all of the schools with a menu of options for days & times and the schools are in control of when they play? Is this really what you think?

Schools hate Big Noon Kickoff because they are forced to do it.

Actually I think a lot of the year OSU is fine with it. Early games mean you get time with the family at night.

But this game should not be the same

You do realize that many fans have booked this trip for months, if not almost a full year, most likely arriving on a Thursday or Friday.. watching the game on Saturday, and then leaving sometime on Sunday.

So you are just going to give the bird to all these fans? Not to mention that many of these fans are our biggest fans who travel all over the country to see Texas play.. and they also happen to be many of our biggest donors..

On top of all that, I'm sure the athletics department made travel arrangements for the team, coaches, band, etc. a long, long time ago..

There is a 0% chance we would have agreed to move the time slot.

This.

A Sunday night away game totally fricks up the normal weekly schedule.

Getting home Saturday night v. Monday morning is a no brainer.

UT Austin isn’t ready for prime time. They’re an 11:00AM kickoff type school just like Michigan. They don’t belong in the SEC. The 2019 LSU game in prime time was because of LSU, not UT-Austin.
