Teams that dominated the SEC every decade of the SEC:
-The new teams aren’t going to be here just FYI cause there isn’t enough sample size
1920s (Foundational era)
King: Alabama ( 2 natties, 3 conference titles)
Runner Up: Tennessee (2 conference titles)
1930s (SEC creations)
King: Alabama (2 natty, 4 conference titles)
Runner Up: Tennessee (1 natty, 3 conference titles)
1940s
King: Georgia (1 natty, 3 conference titles)
Runner Up: Tennessee (1 natty, 2 conference titles)
1950s
King: Tennessee (2 natties, 3 conference titles)
Runner Up: Ole Miss (1 natty, 3 conference title)
1960s
King: Alabama (3 natties, 4 conference titles)
Runner Up: Ole Miss (2 natties, 3 conference titles)
1970s
King: Alabama (3 natties, 8 conference titles)
Runner Up: Georgia (1 conference title)
1980s
King: Auburn (4 conference titles)
Runner Up: Georgia (1 natty, 3 conference titles)
1990s
King: Florida (1 natty, 5 conference titles)
Runner Up: Tennessee (1 natty, 3 conference titles)
2000s
King: LSU (2 natties, 3 conference titles)
Runner Up: Florida (2 natties, 3 conference titles)
2010s
King: Alabama (4 natties, 5 conference titles)
Runner Up: Auburn (1 natty, 2 conference titles)
2020s (so far)
King: Georgia (2 natties, 2 conference titles)
Runner Up: Alabama (1 natty, 3 conference titles)
-the closest margins were 1980s and 2000s
-Auburn beat out LSU in 2010s because they played in more SEC titles 3>2
-the widest gap was 1970s
-ok ready for people to complain (Texas fans who weren’t in the SEC and Arkansas fans who don’t have relevance to this thread)

Alabama - 5
Georgia - 2
Tennessee - 1
Auburn - 1
Florida - 1
LSU 1
Seems right to me.

I’ll take it. Auburn vs Georgia was certainly a battle in the ‘80s.
If you take it back one decade further, Auburn would likely be King of the 1910s.

Close one between LSU and Florida in the 2000s

Tennessee had a winning record against bama in the 1990s. Also anyone who watched from 1990 to 1999 would say Tennessee was the better program.

I agree. Tennessee was more consistent and outright dominant at times.

Yes.
SIAA Championship 1910-1919:
4- Auburn (1910, 1913, 1914, 1919)
4- Vanderbilt (1910, 1911, 1912, 1915)
3- Georgia Tech (1916, 1917, 1918)
2- Tennessee (1914, 1916)

I don't disagree. It's a benefit of the yearly rivalry game for these comparisons. Even the early 90s when Bama was keeping it's win/no loss streak alive, they were close games. When UTk went on their streak starting in 1995, there were multiple 2 score ++ wins by the Vols.
My only recourse is to reintroduce the argument that a decade is the 1 to the 0 and not the 0 to the 9, so even though it only helps your case, let's please retread the decades argument, so I can go back to repressing the tears between Stallings and Saban.

Interesting thread.

I'd also flip UGA and AU in the 80s. NC carries more weight. Plus, UGA won 2 of 3 SEC titles outright. Au won 2 of 4 outright, and one was a 3-way tie. Plus, frick AU.

IMO should be Florida bc we won head to head 6-4 in that era.
I feel casual fans forget that Fl and LSU started the whole SEC football dominance trend. Bama simply took the reins after. Guarantee if you ask a random football fan they'd say it was Bama that put the SEC on top. Bama and UGA etc simply kept us up there.

Last two decades: 2006-2025
Arkansas' dominance of Tennessee
Hawgs are winners of 5/6 in football.

By most other programs standards, particularly Bama, Florida won the 84 and 85 nattys...

I can’t remember the last time TN was legit at football. Memphis State has been the best program in the state if TN the last 15 years or so
