Since 1985 when the Tournament expanded to 64 (play-in games are not counted):
84- Kentucky
49- Florida
40- Arkansas
37- Oklahoma
33- Texas
28- Alabama
25- Tennessee
23- Auburn
19- LSU
13- Missouri
12- Texas A&M
10- Miss St
9- Vanderbilt
6- Ole Miss
4- Georgia
4- South Carolina
Absolutely wild that all of South Carolina’s Tournament wins in a 40-year period came in one season during its run to the Final Four.

to be fair our number would be up around vandy's if our spineless gutless admin didn't seppuku ourselves in 2003

I’d like to see Auburn get that tie with Tenn this year

Sooners have had some very good teams. I'm old enough to remember the Mookie Blaylock squad that almost won the natty. The box score from that game is a little crazy. Sooners only played one reserve, and he played 7 minutes. The starters went the rest of the way.

I still don’t understand how this is even remotely possible. You can recruit an entire team from 45 minutes away. Never even have to leave the state for top tier talent and yet they’re always mid to bad. It’s mind blowing.

I would have guessed LSU had 10 more than us.
Weird.

A lot of LSU’s success predates the Tournamant expansion in ‘85… a final Four in 1953 and 1981, plus and Elite 8 in 1980.
Since ‘85 they’ve had two Final Four runs (‘86, ‘06) but they’ve also had 9 exits in the first round and four more exits in the 2nd round. Thirteen NCAA Tournament appearances with a combined 4 wins is not ideal.

I wonder what percentage of these are from Pearl (or in Tennessee's case, Pearl and after) or Oats?
Feels like all 3 owe most of their modern success to recent coaches. Sure Alabama had Wimp, and that Elite 8 run, but outside of those seasons it still feels like (if I had to guess) at least 1/3 of our wins came from Oats.

I think Pearl and Oats each have 10 wins at their current schools

plenty of reasons
-If you aren't a bball school, you aren't a bball school. Auburn is 2 hours away from Atlanta so you coudl say the same thing abotu them you said about us. Up until Pearl they were in contention, or maybe even sole possession, of the worst all time SEC progrma historically. They found the right coach then boom, sky's the limit. We have had elite coahces (tubby, harrick) but they've left quickly
-Our administration all the way up to our former AD haven't given the slightest shti about bball. Our current one does and it shows we're trying to turn the tide but historically our admin simly hasn't cared.
-When things have looked to relaly start ramping up to possibly change our whole trajectory something happens. Tubby had us rolling then he bolted for a better job and our AD publicly said he didn' even bother trying to counter to keep him beucase it'd be no use. Harrick had us rolling then we were thrown under the bus becuase of some phone bills we paid for a player.
-On the flip side of the above, and tying in with the part about our AD not caring or being incompetent, when we've had lousy coaches we've held onto them for FAAAAAR too long. Felton stunk but he lucked into the 2008 miracle so stayed a year longer than he should've. Fox was awful but he did JUST enough to not be horrendous so our admin just kept kickin the can down the road. HE should've been fired several years before he actually was.
-Recruiting is so mega important in basketball and a major part of that is the AAU circuit. For decades our coahces havne't "played ball" with the AAU groups and it basically put us into the stone age. Felton and Fox neither wanted to get their hands dirty and do what every other big boy team does in recruiting so we've often been left with table scraps. Poor recruiting, medicore coaching, and an uninterested AD make for a bad combination.
-From history up through 2003 you can certainly say we underachieved but we were aight in general. The last 20 years though we've made zero progress whatsoever until, like right now.

I think the turning point was committing to building a new arena. No, we wouldn’t have started winning until we hired the right coach, but I think Auburn’s financial commitment to building the arena in the first place helped us land Pearl. It showed we were serious about improving.
I’m thankful we made that decision in the era of artificially low interest rates.

UF never even made it to the big dance until 1987, which was promptly vacated by the NCAA.

The definition of a New Blood. Florida’s success in basically every sport since the late 1980s is night and day compared to prior to then. Quite unbelievable what all they’ve accomplished.

I agree with the exception that the 80's are 40 years ago. So while we are no blueblood, we have been decent at sports for a couple of generations now. Although much of what started in the early 80's was set back in the late 80's by probation in football and basketball.
We were a beach bum school that didn't take athletics seriously until we hired Charley Pell in 1979 and Norm Sloan in 1980 (for the 2nd time).

True. But while the turnaround happened in the ‘80s, the championships didn’t come until later.
Football titles in 1996, 2006, 2008.
Basketball titles in 2005 and 2006
Baseball title in 2017
Softball titles in 2014 and 2015
Gymnastics titles in 2013, 2014, 2015
That blood is pretty new.
