More Smoke on Buzz and Maryland

Looks like they might actually pursue Buzz if Willard leaves.
I have mixed feelings about this. I think Buzz is a great coach, excellent defensive tactician, coaches the rebounding. But, his limitations is recruiting upper echelon players for his system, and putting together a consistent offense. Idk. I’ve grown used to rock fights to win games. But it’s not easy to win games shooting under 40%, which we somehow do.
I think Buzz already makes like $4.5M a year, so I wonder how much Maryland is willing to pay.

Ignoring historical success, is Maryland really a step up from A&M in 2025?

Those sissy milk men cheerleaders Buzz hates them.

A&M should hire Chris Beard just to stick it in.

Wade if he leaves, probably too late tho.

This would be the greatest accomplishment of any of A&M’s ADs in history. Would be absolutely hilarious

I don’t think we are going after anyone bc it’s just smoke right now, but Beard could only be an option if he wanted to come back to Texas. That’s why we knew we were gonna get Buzz from VT, he wanted to come back to the state when he was hired.

Truth be known, I don't think basketball coaches like being employed at football empires.

At this point no. Much more resources at aTm than Maryland, even if it is secondary to football.

It’s going to boil down to who will pay him the most. Maryland is in a talent rich area within 150 miles of major East coast cities north and south.

A&M is dumb if they get in a bidding war over Buzz

If I were A&M I’d be okay without Buzz. His comments on success is consistency not postseason results should be a red flag

If I was an aggy, I’d hope he leaves. The only downside is that eligible replacements (good coaches without a crazy buyout) are far and few in between.
But this would be the second coach within 12 months to willingly leave A&M for another school. Thats not really a sign of a solid athletic department.

Mark Turgeon left A&M basketball for Maryland some years back

Why would Willard leave and where would he go?

I could see him making that jump just to stick it to CDC. He wasn't happy about being let go.

Maryland is still a better job.

Rumor is that our AD is already talking to all of the unpaid assistants with no head coaching experience on Buzz's staff. He's also interviewing the players to see what coach they like the most and will hire that person.
This is his approach for all coaching hires now that Earley has done such a great job with baseball.

That’s a stretch. Buzz lost 9 players from the team, 8 to graduation. It’s illogical to think Wade, Coleman, or Phelps are picking a coach when they are gone. Early and baseball was a move to keep the roster together.
Buzz has to completely reload on his hands. He’s a good coach, so I think he can squeak out 20 wins with a new roster. But he needs to reinvent his offensive approach.
