If so then Mark Grace belongs in the HOF too. Clark did have a little more power. But, they're basically the same player. The problem with Grace is he was a drunk. But, Clark is arrogant as hell. Personalities and off the field problems don't help them with the voters. The veteran committee may see it differently in the years to come.

Unusual stat on Clark: his highest career OPS was his last season.

What?? That’s not true @ all. I was rehabbing my knee for the 1st of 3 times in a year when he was rehabbing his hip. He couldn’t have been more down to earth and always enjoyable to be around. The conversations about baseball and hunting were great.

This is very true. I threw him out of a bar I was managing in the early 90's. It was closing time and I walked up and told he and his friends you have to leave. He said, do you know who I am? I said yeah, Will Clark, the baseball player from Jesuit. You need to leave.
He promptly left.

You're probably right.

Take a look at Curt Schilling. His comments about January 6th and strong conservative leanings doesn't go over well with the media who tend to lean hard left. I certainly don't agree with it, but it's the way it is. That's why he asked them to remove him for consideration with the voters and leave it in the hands of the veteran's committee.

The bench mark for players to get into the HOF is 3,000 hits. There are only two eligible players not in the HOF with 3,000 hits or more Rafael Palmeiro and Alex Rodriguez and it's because of PEDS. The only other player not in with over 3,000 hits is Pete Rose, but he's not eligible. So off the field troubles and problems certainly matter with players that are on the edge numbers wise.

It's hard to say about Clark. Without looking at his career stats and going strictly by memory, I want to say he is on the cusp of being a no brainer selection but he had a period of several years where he was dogged by injuries which resulted in a few less than stellar seasons. He was solid throughout his career and spectacular in his early years.

He bought the land we used to lease for deer hunting in Mississippi when I was in the 8th or 9th grade, so that's a no for me. And people say I don't hold a grudge.
