SEC Basketball Programs: 20 Win Seasons

The 20 win mark has always seemed to be the measuring stick of a good to decent season versus a not so great to bad season. At this time, all current SEC teams who can get the 20 win mark have done so, besides Texas. A win today would add to the Texas programs 20 win season total.
1. Kentucky - 68
2. Arkansas - 37
3. Texas - 35
4. Alabama - 33

Georgia is the anomaly. Just amazing they haven’t had more success with their potential resources.

Assumed Florida would have a lot more.

They are surrounded by tons of basketball blue chip talent, but they are also surrounded by states who have much more successful programs. North Carolina, Duke, Florida, Wake Forest, Tennessee, etc.
Mike White has done a pretty good job so far though, IMO.

Florida's first 20 win season was in 1967. They did not have another 20 win season until 1986. So all of their 20 win seasons are post that 1986 year, minus the one in the 1960's.

there was a time a while back when we were on really solid footing and had a great trajectory. Hugh Durham was up and down but did go to several tourneys including a final 4. We hit a rough patch with the tail end of his career but turned it around super quick with Tubby. That 96 team lost on a buzzer beater but had so much more potential. We dipped again with Ron Jirsa, but yet again, righted the ship quickly with Harrick. At this point you can say that we are looking good, despite our admin not giving a shite about basketball. Even with tubby we simply didn' care to do what it took to be elite. Then with the harrick thing, our dumbfrick administration just completely and utterly shite the bed and our program has only just now recovered. It was truly a 20 year punishment that was largely self imposed. It doens't help that, unlike with jirsa, when we made bad hires now we held onto the them for FAAAAR too long. Felton and Fox shouldn't have stuck around half as long as they did.
Firing Fox was the beginning of us at least trying to be serious in bball. The crean hire didn't work out but we at least TRIED to go make a big splash hire. And White so far has been a huge hit. It's my hope that we'll continue to trend upward.

That is pretty good for Arkansas that didn't have basketball until the 1920s.

As I've said a million times, Agurn was a doormat before the obese cheat got there.

Arky posters need to make up your minds about regular season wins.

It makes what he has done even more impressive. Auburn was almost certainly THE worst basketball program in the league.
Outside a year or two here and there with Sonny Smith and Cliff Ellis, the teams were just awful.

The fact that we’re not last by a wide margin surprises me

UF didn't hire a full time men's basketball coach until the 1960's. Then UF started to get decent as population in state exploded.

Oklahoma has been to the 2nd most Final Fours in the SEC behind Kentucky.
