The sport I love is being destroyed one thing after another. I absolutely hate this.

Sooner legend:

Gerald McCoy
@Geraldini93

So no spring game? Just a showcase? No opportunity for young guys to perform in front of fans? Guys who have improved to do it in front of the fans. What about the guys who may never see the field in a real game getting an opportunity in the spring game to get reps in front of a crowd. Aight I guess. Love yall. Always a Sooner but count me out on this one. Guess I’m officially an old head now…

Those games are boring anyway. Need to get rid of post season bowl games. Move them to week 0 of the next season.

Are spring practices pointless? There are scrimmages during spring practices. If those are pointless, why do coaches have them.

All we PAYING FANS want is to watch one damn scrimmage during spring. The paranoid coaches that think every other team will learn something or grab their players due to one scrimmage being seen should look in the mirror because that is where their team's lack of performance stems from!

Spring games suck anyway

And then the fans go on Twitter, talking about all their stud young weapons and how good they looked, despite the fact that they torched their defensive starters

Yeah, it sucks when fans get to see players on their favorite team perform, and get excited for the upcoming season. The fans are too spoiled anyway. Hell, we're just lucky they let us attend games in the fall.

Practices and practice scrimmages are never pointless.

The watered-down, vanilla crap rolled out for fan consumption every spring, is definitely pointless.

Disagree. Playing in front of thousand of people is great experience…especially for younger players.

Sad to see it go. Really too bad.

Disagree. Its not about any so called hard hitting its about fans getting to see new names and existing names have fun in a soft game. And what it really does is get the fans motivated for the season.

They will talk about some players doing good things and helps gain momentum for tix dales and donations.

Its a gathering of fans with a common interest. This helps carry them thru the spring/summer and helps get word out which helps donations. With NIL its even more important to get and keep momentum.

A few years ago we put 73k in stadium for spring game. And all that buzz/talk from fans also beat writers plus social media was helpful for the program.

Its another tradition being taken away. I understand the why but don’t agree. A combine will get a few fans who can mingle on the field but you will not have many thousands present that day, can only fit so many on field.

There are many other reasons to keep it. I hate we just fell in line with others too. Every fan I’ve talked to today thinks its a joke and how the program is disconnecting from the reason they are there - the fans. Pushing away fans is never a good idea in any sport.

I haven't been to one in. 20 years.... I never cared about the results either. Its like the preseason in NFL. I was living in Detroit in 2008 when the Lions went 4-0 in the preseason then 0-16 in the regular season.

simple solution to most of CFB’s problems:

1) ESD in december becomes NSD (which it is effectively already)
2) transfer portal opens only once a year, right after the CFP Championship
3) portal closes march 1st
4) profit

coaches wouldn’t have to worry about spring games being a showcase for other schools, and can concentrate on scouting potential transfers (and retaining their own players) from the end of the regular season til the portal closes

and have their rosters set for fall going into spring practice

of course there will be some rule changes for late enrollments for kids changing schools, but who the hell cares about academics at this point (“we aint here to play school”)

It was one of the few low stakes fun things done entirely for the fans.

Kids got to meet players, have a nice spring afternoon, maybe get some autographs. Little ones often got to watch football before they'd be able to handle a full game with fighting/screaming drunk adults.

It was a really good thing for fans and families. Yet another piece of college football flushed down the toilet.

I don't think Spring games were all that great if we're being honest, but some of these new "traditions" they're coming up with to replace them are downright pitiful.

Combine-style drills and skill challenges

Two years from now they'll replace this with a flag football game for "player safety".
