I read in a topic a week or 2 ago that moo state's AD or their wife didn't like the coach? What are the granular details here?

The scuttle butt

John Cohen (former MSU AD, current Auburn AD) has a trans daughter. Vic Schaffer, a Christian, may have hinted (but did not say anything) that he was not a fan of the trans movement, so the AD's wife just hated him, but State was winning at an elite level.

There was some tension between Schaffer and Cohen, because when Cohen was hired, Schaffer had expressed interest in being an AD "sometime in the future." At the end of the 2020 COVID season, when NCAA Tournament had been canceled, Texas reached out and Schafer declined.

However, there was a rumor that his daughter, Blair, then a GA on staff, had a relationship with Chloe Bibby, a player. It was apparently all BS, but Cohen approached Schaffer with it. Schaffer said F this - you arent going to accuse my daughter of that, went to Texas and Bibby transferred to Maryland.

Now Texas is No. 1, led by the best player ever to come out of Mississippi high school girls basketball and Mississippi State is scratching to get a bid to the tournament. If Schaffer is booed Thursday night on his return to Starkville, it will be par for the course with Mississippi State fans.

See this Starkville Pride post. Schaffer was really against using the MSU womens basketball team as a rallying point for LGBT stuff and Nellie was a bigtime support of Pride in Starkville.

I remember when people said Madison Booker and her Germantown HS team could beat anybody in the country and then got run out of the gym by Hoover Alabama.

That Germantown team was Madison Booker and a bunch of space fillers. Teams that could make someone else have to do something other than pass the ball to Madison could beat them. She was undeniably the best player on the court every time she played, but her teammates were average on their best night.

Hoover won that game 59-49 Madison's senior year when they went 29-2. The other loss? A one point loss to 4A Choctaw Central.

Hoover had a 5 star guard in Reniya Kelly who starts at NC now and about 6 more who signed off that team. Hoover was up like 18-20 and cleared the bench and Germantown went on a run late to make it look closer than it was. That game was also played in Mississippi.

Starkville's close enough to Alabama so it's ok.

Cohen and Schaefer were two big personalities who butted heads on many things, evidently. One of which was the hierarchy of how important State should view baseball vs women’s basketball.

Vic thought women’s basketball was the most important sport on campus. Cohen thought baseball was. They were both wrong. And now both gone.

Cohen will always be the AD that let Mullen and Schaefer leave on his watch and it’s a big reason why his legacy with most State fans is not good. That, combined with totally being lapped by the rest of the league on NIL.

I'm still shocked auburn hired him as AD. Everyone I knew was wanting cohen fired and then out of the blue Auburn hired him. I think cohen felt the heat and started interviewing
