Yes there are 2 from the SEC in this article.

Maryland
Utah
Minnesota
LSU
Vanderbilt
Southern Cal
FSU
Xavier

In addition, Georgia, Ole MIss, State and A&M have never been #1.

P.S. The South Carolina basketball team started the 1969-70 season at No. 1 but quickly dropped after losing their 2nd game. They stayed in the top 10 all season and even climbed back to No. 2. Debate among yourselves whether a preseason No. 1 ranking should count.

I thought we were preseason #1 one year in the early 90s but maybe we were 2. Also, Maryland won the damn tournament so it’s ridiculous that they didn’t get ranked #1 after that.

It's not surprising for us. Our AD has never, and never will give a shite about MBB.

Utah is really surprising. They had some strong teams in the 90s with Majerus.

Do they rank the teams after the tournament? Why would they need to and who would pay it any attention?

Also I got the info for the rest of the teams here.

It is 3 years old, but I don't think anything has changed.

I have never understood it myself. The last time we made the final 4 in 2006 we were ranked #3 in the final coaches poll but #19 in the AP poll. Makes no sense.

Surprised Dale Brown never had LSU at #1.

How is that possible? LSU has been a basketball power from time to time. Had Pete Maravich and Shaq (but I guess we had Anthony Edwards so that answers that question)

Maryland won a Natty back in 2000 or 2001.

Auburn caught a lot of shite for hiring Pearl. It clearly paid off in a big way.

LSU is surprising because they've had so many great teams there.

Or maybe not to surprising. Arkansas had a run of tournament appearances and success before we were ranked #1. Even today there is some bias against teams in the SEC foot print being highly ranked in basketball.

Not only did Maryland win a Natty but they're the only men's team to win the NCAA Tourney against scratch opponents.

i.e. They're a 1 seed and they beat a 16, 8 , 4 , 2 , 1 and 1 enroute to a title.

Just a note, this isn’t a complete list. Iowa State is currently #2 and it is their highest ranking ever.

Guess my point is that Maryland has been ranked #1.
Actually in the poll that is the most important. After proving it.

Pretty sure the AP does. Probably for the same reason they rank teams after the college football season and probably the same people who pay attention to it

I guess my memory fails because I remember LSU MBB being ranked #1 more than one week in 1980-81

In the SEC I would guess OU would have been ranked #1 the most behind Kentucky. The Billy Tubbs, Kelvin Sampson, and Lon Kruger years were pretty good.
