Dual threat QB. Pendulum shifting?

Although athletic and able to move in and around the pocket, the four remaining QB’s are not considered “dual threat”. CFB is always adapting. The defenses got lighter and faster with the explosion of RPO, LBs and safeties specifically. I feel like we are seeing more teams committing to a traditional run game because of this. It’s not the full blown fullback lead power, but more like the NFL pattern. PSU, ND and OSU (to a less extent) want to run first. Whether it’s a trend or just a dearth of high level dual threat QB’s remains to be seen.

All I know is, QBs pretending to pass sending all WRs on go-routes then designed scramble is the worst aspect of football.

Then somebody needs to LANK then so they can start practicing handoffs and getting under center.

Give me a QB that can pass first any day of the week. I got RBs that can run....My QB only runs if the play breaks down. The most dangerous person on the field is an accurate passer that can shred a defense..Run first QBs usually get exposed when they are forced to pass against more elite defenses.

A QB that is elusive is still game breaking

Perhaps a running offense gives their D more rest and more time of possession leading to better defense stats. Hope I didn’t spoil your spoiler.
A good run game travels just like a good defense.

Everyone outside of Leach wants to be able to run the ball. It’s safer and keeps you balanced.
Running QB are for 1 of 2 reasons:
1) you are undertalented and need the extra blocker in the run game and you can’t find a competent passer
2) you find a freak that can pass and is athletic as hell.
Sometimes you think the freak athlete will improve but they don’t.

Not sure what there is to shift, it's always been this way really.

Generally can win games but not championships.
Like Manzel was good against Alabama in 2012, but got shut down by other good defenses like Florida and LSU.

I feel like Leonard is pretty much the new standard for what coaches want in what has become the new definition of DT
He's not a RB playing QB or a world class athlete, but he's athletic and durable enough to use his legs consistently and be very productive.
I do understand what you're saying TBH, but if a guy with 2000 yards on the ground 34 career rushing TDs isn't DT...

God bless Leach but an amputee can count how many championships he coached.
Defense.

Dart was the perfect mixture. He could sling it really damn well but if he needed to run, he could bulldoze people too. Pass first but has the legs to hurt you too.

I feel the same about leonard. Only reason he isnt a dual threat is because he cant throw the deep ball. He is 100% a threat to run every play.

What if the NCAA banned the shotgun snap. Mandating all snaps had to be taken under center. What would that do to the game?

Any good coach will tell you he'd rather have the ball in the hands of his offense than his defense on the field. Scoring more points than the opponent wins games and controlling the ball to dictate the game is what wins. The saying "Defense wins championship" just doesn't hold water. Thats a smaller piece of the puzzle compared to than what the offense can do for you.

8 of the last 20 championship QBs had 400+ rushing yards in that year. Several had nearly 1,000 or more

Make the game even dumber, but football is always evolving.
In this scenario I could see the QB as a glorified holder who just shovels it to a "RB" to make the actual read/play.
We shouldn't really limit what the offense can do. I thought "addressing" hurry-up offenses was a mistake. Let people try things, let defenses catch up.
