Question for Texas fans & those familiar with Texas football.

What are Texas's strengths & weaknesses, and what do you see as their path to victory?
I expect it to be a good game if for no other reason than it will be difficult for Ohio State to string 3 straight games of perfect football.
Sooner or later they will have a turnover(s), and some of those dimes that Will Howard has been dropping will miss the mark.
Plus Texas has them in Dallas so it is a home game.
I expect Ohio State to win, but I don't think it will look like Tennessee/Oregon.

When did we start playing home games in ATT?
To your question, our field goal kicking game is our strength…that’s what OSU should concentrate on , how to rattle Sideshow Bert

This will likely tell the story. If they play the way they have the last 2 games, nobody is beating them. But that's very difficult to do.
Texas also hasn't played a complete game this season, in my opinion. That could be because we're not capable of doing it, or we are and just haven't.
Hopefully Ohio St. reverts to the mean a bit and we finally put together a good game in all phases.
Best on best is a fair fight. If either team shits the bed and the other doesn't, it'll be ugly.

So when people on here say that Texas fans are insufferable douchebags, I guess they are referring to you.

Will Howard gets spooked by competent pass rush and solid DB play look at the Michigan game.
Texas has a similar (but better) defensive identity to them.
Offense is our weakness for some odd reason with all those blue chips on the team. Ewers needs to step up.

I keep hearing about Texas's stellar D, but didn't Arizona State run up 510 yards on that D ?
And SEC offenses have looked like dog shite in the Bowls. so maybe it is more of bad SEC offenses than it is stellar Texas D.
Tennessee only gave up 6.9 a game this year playing in SEC and look what Ohio State did to them.
Maybe Arizona State has a good offense, but they aren't close to being Ohio State.

We as fans don't know much more than you . We have a very talented roster who if they played a complete game could be the countries best but they haven't come close yet . Our strengths are I think. a never quit attitude , an ability to play better when the going gets tough and a very good football IQ . Thee weakness is very simply two things : 1) no killer extinct and 2) very very inconsistent play from the OL and QB position.
I honestly don't know which team will show up at any game .

Agree with the above that we don't put complete games together.
We also have a schizophrenic rushing attack and when it is taken away neither Sark nor Ewers have a clue.
We were a bit like this in 09 but Colt would pick opponents apart with quick hitters.
We could definitely win this game if our best D (strength) shows up but my money would be on Ohio St

Their strength is the NIL ref program. If the refs hadn’t “forgotten” how to call targeting, you’d be playing ASU.

Weaknesses:
QB
OL (lately)
Kicking game
3rd quarters (6 total points in the last 6 games)
Strengths
Defense
Running backs when the OL blocks for them
Brain tells me we have no shot. They'll shut down the run early and Sark will panic and put the game on Quinn to win. He can't do it.
Then again the miracle on ice happened so who knows? Perhaps OSU will play flat after 2 straight emotional games.

Best secondary in the country, and this will be the most physical team tosu will have played outside of maybe Michigan. Offensive line is a strength, the only team that got them to look pedestrian was Georgia (freak athletes that only they have), but tosu might be the closest team to them. Texas also has the better QB, stats say otherwise, but Texas fans are very familiar with Will Howard and he’s not that good.
Weakness, if tosu can beat the Texas line to their marks on zone like UGA and ASU did, it will be a long day. Also a team is never out of the game with they play Texas. You could be down 3 touchdowns and we’ll let you back into the game.

ASU ran 97 plays to get their 500 yards, Texas ran 60 to get their 375.
The Texas D is seriously legit and without them Texas would not have beat Clemson or ASU.
The Texas/OSU matchup is fascinating because Texas has a D that can get pressure with 4 and most likely the best secondary in CFB. Those play directly to OSU’s amazing talent on the outside and an inconsistent OL.
On the flip side, the Texas injured OL vs a OSU DL will be something to watch as well. Banks has been nicked up the last 3 games and their RT is expected back after missing the ASU game. If the Texas OL can control the LOS, then their running game will be clicking and Texas is extremely difficult to beat.
This should be a good game and I am amazed at the people throwing out the OSU by 10+ predictions. At the start of the playoffs, Vegas had Texas favored over OSU by -1.5 when they started to look at all possible games. Let’s not let recency bias not overwhelm our thinking. I see this still as a coin flip.

Did the freak Georgia athletes miss the Notre Dame game, because Georgia got man handled

Nope, they played. It’s 2 different blocking schemes. The combination of size and speed that UGA has on the front 7 is a bad matchup for Texas. tosu might have that on their front 7, I haven’t watched them much this year.

quote:They had to defend 100 plays. A fake punt kept them on the field. A 4th and 2 Skattebo throw kept them on the field. A safety kept them on the field. Texas' offense had a few lighting quick drives and a bunch of 3 and outs.

Texas Weakness? Coaching
Sark is a great program builder but his play calling has been mediocre this year. ASU defense gambles on tendencies like no other. So Sark just plays into their hands because he thinks superior athletes would win the day. He runs outside zone into the the waiting arms of slanting DLs who gambled, based on our formation/down and distance tendencies, and it paid off again and again and again. Georgia did the same thing, with superior athletes.
TLDR; Sark is stubborn and spends a lot of time smelling his own farts
Strength - Defense and pass protection by the Oline

That is debatable and especially so at safety. I don't think there's a bertter safety room in the country than the one at Ohio State.
