These lopsided "playoff" games were setup on purpose, and ratings was not the reason. They are being setup to destroy the concept of conferences in college football so it can be finally turned in to NFL lite and all the money that will enrich certain organizations.

You think the NIL was the nail in the coffin, wait until the traditional conferences are destroyed or diluted to mirror NFL divisions.

Bottom line, this is just another step in the fundamental transformation of a traditionally student athletic focused event, into the corporate whore business it has been sliding towards for years...

I witnessed Nick Saban land a fricking helicopter on the Cartersville Hurricanes football field to have a chat with Trevor Lawrence once.

This has been a business for years bro.

Yeah, but we all play along with the theatre that it is the NCAA run event. That will end and it will move further and further away from student athletics.

Yes it has been a business for years, I am saying killing the conferences will finally end this farce that it is about college athletics and become another version of NFL the powers that be want.

It's been that way for awhile, they were just now given the ability to do it while being totally transparent. See the 4000 kids in the portal. Half of which are starters. If a casino owner was a huge unlv fan and was willing to fund whatever it costs to field a great team ryan Williams would transfer there next year. It's a money game with no return. Who's ego is bigger and has the most frick you money

That's basically already happened.

I remember when the SEC was 10 teams and we only played 6 conference games a year.

The more teams they add the more teams won't win it. The seeding with 1 playing 12 like games are always going to be lopsided.

Your overall concept is right but its been big business for a while. They have the wrong people on selection committee. The right committee with better criteria could make a better 12 team field.

They are afraid if they don’t let in smaller conferences it will kill them off. Need to have 0 auto qualifiers. Merit based only.

Something to ponder about saying its going away from the fans. There are 4 high level games this bowl season being played at a college home stadium. Thats more than the last several decades.

The could get a random group here or any sports bar and they’d do a better job than that committee

We’ve just come full circle. Texas was in the same conference with most SEC schools until the 1920’s or so. That’s when a group broke away to form new leagues.

A college football playoff will always be flawed. Too many teams, too much disparity between top and bottom, etc. Cap number of D1 schools at 100. Create 10 divisions equally competitive. Ten division winners and two wildcards. Ruins some of things that makes college football different but we are already pretty far down that road.
