Early Predictions For Notre Dame

Still have about two week until we have to go but I’d figure let’s get some early predictions in anyway.
Obviously we have the defense to shut down the Irish. Their offense has never really impressed me their best games were against lackluster defenses.
They also don’t have any really great wins, their best win was the Aggies who finished 8-4 or Indiana who’s been blown out against the only two legitimate teams they’ve played. They almost feel like Texas with a worse QB since Riley isn’t on par with Ewers or maybe even Arch. If we can keep him contained on his runs we should be able to keep him in check like we did with Ewers both times.
As for our offense I have zero idea, the o-line is finally healthy and our backfield is healthy finally as well. But it all depends on how Gunner comes out, if he starts to look like a deer in headlights or the moment is too big, the Irish will just load the box all night and they have a solid run defense. Gunner doesn’t need to be a world beater just do enough to not make major mistakes and keep the secondary honest and keep them out of the box.
Going off right now I’ll say a down to the wire game with our run game giving the death blow with a long TD drive to seal the game.

ND looked slow and pedestrian to me. Looked like an easy win. But could also have been the freezing weather that made them look like that. Gunner is a baller but has made questionable throws downfield. I think he is very Fromm like where he will be a game manager but make some runs. I don’t think as of now he is the qb for the future. Would love to be wrong.

If our offense hadn’t been so Jekyll and Hyde this season and we didn’t have a backup QB starting his first game ever I’d feel a lot better about this game. But here we are with Gunner in his first start in a playoff game in New Orleans. He’s going to have to grow up real quick or it’s to be a slog of a game
One thing I heard about this years time (not sure where) is that this team may not be the best team this year but they’re the most experienced in big game situations so they’ll drag you down in the dirt with them and no matter how ugly it’ll get they’re probably going to beat you because they know how to win these games

I picked ND originally because of our unknown at QB. After tonight, I still think ND’s defense will be a problem for Stockton… however… our defense could really frick ND up. I see it as a 17-13 or 20-17 type a game that could go either way.

It’s could be a really tough game. I think both of UGA’s lines of scrimmage destroy ND. Watching them last night I could not believe how small they were. It all comes down to the game plan, putting Gunner in the best position to make plays, and him making those plays! If he plays well with no turnovers it could easily be 27-10 Dawgs.
Kirby is going to call heavily on the Oline to get this run game going and grind that defense into the ground!!
I love the fact that Kirby was on gameday last night and the ND fans were chanting “ We want Georgia!!”

Our defense should be able to get more pressure on their QB. He does do a good job with his outlet passes.
Offensively, have no idea what a full game of Gunner looks like. We just have to not make the big mistakes and catch the ball lol.
Their FG kicker has the yips.

A matchup between two Blue Blood programs, just what we all want. If Gunner plays mistake free Dawgs 24-20. In fact, kicking and turnovers will be a big factor. Deep 4th quarter game, maybe last possession.

I hope Coach Bobo lets Gunner run the entire offense. Don't want to see a replay of the 1981 sugar bowl because Herschel Walker's not on this roster. I'd rather lose because our backup quarterback makes too many mistakes than because we get so conservative that ND knows exactly what's coming. If Gunner can use his arm and his legs to keep their defense guessing, we can overcome the rookie errors.

The only concerning things I seen from ND is their QB can run and their receivers can catch. Their receivers made their QB look good making difficult catches.

Bobo has had his eye on Gunner a long time so he knows what he’s capable of and an offense that will work with his skill set. We need Gunner to channel his inner Stet and make the right reads, throws to convert and use his legs to get out of trouble.
AND get OB or down rather than trying to smash people. After thinking about it, I don’t remember Stet taking any hard hits and we don’t need Gunner getting hurt.

The ND team has been we played in a big game. Last night was a regular season home game for them.
They are traveling to a neutral site with a team that is more talented and built to grind you down.
I have a feeling they do make mistakes and they do look slow.
This is essentially a big stage game and I don’t think Freeman and that all white team is ready
34-13 Dawgs

There were a couple of plays where ND caught the Indiana QB from the back while he was trying to QB run. I bet I wasn't the only one of us who thought, they are doing that with Stockton.

ND was able to commit to the run and get pressure on Indianas QB while getting good coverage on the receivers. We have a bigger and more talented O line and better RBs. They are going to try the same against us. If we can get 3/4 yards on first down, things will open up for us.
Our defense is significantly bigger, deeper and more athletic than Indiana’s. ND’s QB will be able to scramble but not as effectively as he did against Indiana. Our defense will be ready for them. Our offense just needs to get some drives going and wear them down.

A lot to 3, Dawgs on top. Thinking 38-3 45-3 type game.

The other thing I noted is Indiana didn’t appear to target their TEs a lot. I see that as being a focus in this game for us and we have some good ones.

Hopefully across the middle too, not just flareouts and sideline routes. TE routes in the middle of the field are a great weapon in cfb because the LB's generally don't do a good job in coverage there.

Agree, and if their LBs commit to the run, we can cook them.

I didn’t watch the game last night b/c of high school ball but it sounds like the expectation needle remains about where it was before the game - cautiously optimistic. Go Dawgs.
