Had to be a failed throwaway, there was no one even close wearing red.

It’s the only thing that makes sense, though I don’t think this was confirmed buy he or the coaches to the best of my knowledge.

That's what I'd guess. I saw someone elsewhere speculate, and it makes logical sense, that before the play Kirby probably drilled it into his head "no matter what happens, above all else, absolutely positively DO NOT take a sack"...so when the pressure was on GS probably just threw it away trying to avoid a sack.

Who knows if there's any merit to that but it would kinda make sense

Fromm had one like that in the Magical 2017 season.

So I'm not the only one who has that pick stuck in his craw, eh?

We're going to rely on Gunner to be a game manager.

I have little doubt the pick was an errant throwaway. But if you're going to be a game manager, comprehending the pressure well enough to be able to get the ball OB is pretty damn important. We were closer to losing that game than any of us want to admit after that screw up. The playcall was bad enough, that was time to run the ball. With the pick coming, I hope whomever called that play learned their lesson.

This play and the sack fumble that luckily went out of bounds were of concern for sure. Hopefully he is getting more comfortable and confidence as QB1 in practice this month.

I don't think with gunner we will see three INTs a game

Hell, I still don't understand how Stet's attempted throw out of bounds vs Bama in the 2021 CFP title game was even remotely able to be considered a fumble, much less recoverable by Alabama.

Especially since they over ruled a more blatant one by Bama early in the game.

Sooo…we don’t actually know :)

Either he saw a wide open guy (not his) and had a brain fart or it was a miserable attempt at throw away.

Was it Bennett or another QB that liked to kinda throw it away but also kinda have it close to a guy in bounds??

Fromm actually had one go back for a pick 6 on an attempted throwaway in our last home loss in 2019.

Just get it out of bounds or don’t get it near anyone, son.

Joe cox had an int on an obvious throw away. The fact that this was not an obvious throw away makes me very nervous about gunner having a total implosion.

I watched the play 10 times just now. He was getting pressure and slid right and had a TE coming open over the middle and threw off his back foot. I’m leaning towards throwing it away and not seeing the second defender that caught it.

My guess on the Stockton INT was Bobo and Smart told him not to take a sack and with limited time after the play call the wr that was supposed to be in the area did not get motioned over.

Bryce Young got the benefit of many, many calls from the officials during his time at Alabama. He could be down before the ball left his hand, they'd call it incomplete. He could be in the grasp of three defenders, they'd call it incomplete. He could fumble, they'd call it incomplete. It could be grounding, they'd call it incomplete. Get hit after the pass, they'd call it roughing. Stetson did not routinely get calls like that.

Beck throws a dozen INTs and Stock throws one and wins the SECC. I’m not worried about Gunner.

1. Beck got that under control.
2. The throw by gunner was one of the worst we have ever seen, and also at a terribly importune time. Luckie saved his arse.

No worse than Quinn's Ints, throwing at someone who was blanketed.

Yes, it's worrisome, but we have to remember this was Gunner's first playing in a meaningful game, not just in mop up duty or in a paycheck game, and was against one of the better defense in CFB. So, mistakes are expected. Hopefully, with all this time off he's getting all the reps with the 1s and practicing a game plan specific to him will greatly lessen the chances of these kinds of mistakes.
