Is it me or is this a new in-vogue term that every tv announcer, coach, and player is using this year. Either “we need to play complementary football”, or “they didn’t play complementary football..” etc etc.

I mean, I get it, it makes sense, but just seems to be the buzz term of the year. I literally hear it multiple times every freaking broadcast and just don’t remember hearing it in prior seasons.

Are you literally sick or just figuratively sick?

"Your team is really good at football."

Am I doing it right?

Ha! Bunch of smartasses. Anyway I’ve been playing and/or watching football for 40 years and never heard the term used so much until this year.

Maybe people think it makes them sound smart.

It’s not a buzz word. It literally means your offense puts your defense in position to succeed and vice versa.

I agree that I've heard it used a lot this year. Seemingly more than in the past. Sark uses the term frequently, that may be why.

It’s a new en vogue term. Remember “football move”… that was another one. Or “contain”… not containment, but “contain”.

A pass is never incomplete, its INNcomplete.

Johnny, do you have your homework? No mam, it’s INNcomplete. Wouldn’t that sound stupid?

Football talk has evolved through the care of brain children like John Madden and Terry Bradshaw. Just go with it.

Thanks, I’m very aware of what it means. My point is that I’ve never heard it used so much as this year.

Well, OU had the opposite.

We had a shite offense and great defense. If we had that word you speak of its a different season.

Can’t forget about special teams. Punter needs to control the field, kicker needs to make everything inside 40

Yeah, but you actually watch football. This is for the casuals that don’t know what it is. They think it’s a buzz word like synergy.

Really? I've been watching football for decades, and never heard that phrase until the last year or two.

Just ignore the queenies. Only us veterans notice new vs old buzz terms.

Wait until you realize the talk shows basically say the same thing every year just changing out the names.
