If this happens....

quote:

losses will be Michael Oher and Peria Jerry both which are seniors. The 2 we may lose early are John Jerry ( Peria's Brother ) and Greg Hardy.

What made Ole Miss so tough this year was their ability to run the ball and stop the run without sacrificing defenders in the secondary.

I actually thought this was Ole Miss' year to win the SEC West. If they hadn't screwed the pooch versus Vandy and kept the Wild Hog in the bag versus Bama I think they would've been in Atlanta.

Ole Miss historically struggles with success or with high expectations. So does Houston Nutt.

I honestly think the West winner comes out of the Bama/LSU game.

Both teams have huge question marks. In all honesty, the West is wide open next year.

I agree. I'm just trying to start a thread that doesn't involve Nick Saban.

I admire your effort, but I think its in vain. Keep fighting the good fight though.

Realistically LSU, Alabama, Ole Miss, Arkansas or Auburn could finish 4th in the West next year....and I think whoever finishes 4th in the West is no worse than 4-4...and whoever finishes 1st in the West is no better than 5-3.

Outside of Arkansas and Auburn who are "wild card" type of teams going through changes who both could really make noise next year...OM, LSU and Bama are all going to be at least good teams. There will be a lot of close and big games amongst the West teams next year.

Another fact about Rebel football:

Besides Vandy is the only SEC school never to post consecutive 8-win seasons since split division play in 1992.

History is not on their side next year.

They have the best QB in the West coming back. That may have something to do with success. BTW, I hate the Rebels, but with the talent Ogeron recruited and Nutt's coaching they should be a major player in the West next year.

He is the most talented, but I dunno if he is the best. He had a lot to do with their success this year but he also had a lot to do with their struggles.

Also, on a side note, I think Houston Nutt is terrible with QB's. He has never had an offensive system set up to have a successful passing game.

Well I dont think he did too bad this year, passed for nearly 3,000 yards...INTs were higher than you would like..but I dont think Ole Miss could get anything better fwiw

Snead at the start of the year learned a little about playing quarterback in the SEC. He was playing very well at the end of the year. I'm expecting that to continue.

Is everyone completely ruling out Moo State on this?

Yes. Mullen is coming in much like Spurrier did. High powered offense with ZERO weapons. If they give him time, they will get better, but no one has any patience anymore.

OM isn't going to lose John Jerry. Hardy probably is gone - his mom wants him to go pro.

Snead is a Heisman candidate - the offense is going to put up huge points.

Their secondary stepped up and didn't give up too much against TX Tech - not an easy thing to do.

They'll be a 9-10 game winner if they don't lose to Vandy and turn it over 6 times like last year.

Ole Piss will settle in the middle again. They couldn't win the west with Eli and Snead is no Eli.

The west was a mess last year and that's the only reason Ole Piss did what it did. That won't happen two years in a row. Do we really think AU is dead in the water?

Unless you have money to burn don't bet any on Ole Missy to win their first west crown.

How do you know?

Ole Miss is returning a ton of starters. Losing some key linemen, I admit, but still returning most of the starters. Unless the West is all of a sudden going to be a ton better than last year, I don't see the logic here. Auburn may be better but Alabama should be worse. LSU...eh show me y'all have a QB and I'll buy it. You guys are a wait and see, could be great could be back in the Peach. Ole Miss is the only school in the SEC West returning a proven quarterback...that does matter.
