What is the point of big OOC games?

LSU against USC
Or A&M versus ND?

If they let SMU in playing Houston Christian why should the SEC schedule teams that are legitimate out of conference?

It makes zero sense. LSU could have played a weak out of conference school and probably made the playoffs. Same with A&M.

Seriously I don’t see the point of ever playing legitimate teams OOC ever again. If this is our reality going forward.

What we need to do is cut the seasons shorter and expand the playoffs.

I say up conference games to 10, conferences are bigger now should be more games. That will naturally reduce the number of OOC games, and may reduce the incentive to schedule big OOC games.

It’s all about money. They know we all will watch championship series games. Regular season excitement

I agree. Cancel all OOC conference games against any legitimate teams for all teams in our league. It makes zero sense to play tougher teams now.

Because if you win it and the committee is splitting hairs it can put you over the edge.

A&M and LSU have no place in the playoff. If you have a good enough team, you'll make it regardless if you play a big OOC game or not.

Its pretty crazy, just schedule cupcakes, and if you can skirt by only losing 2 conference games you're in

To be a bit blunt, big time OOC games weren't the SEC's problem. It was teams that should have made the playoff losing to vastly inferior teams in conference.

Alabama: Don't get blown out by Oklahoma and you're in... possibly hosting.
Ole Miss: Don't shite the bed against Kentucky or Florida and you're in.. possibly hosting.

SMU had to go 11-2 just to even have a chance of making the playoff as an at large. Ole Miss or Alabama were GUARANTEED spots with 2 losses.

I agree with this. It would also ensure we don’t have too many teams with weak schedules.

This is such a stupid takeaway Interesting you mention SMU played Houston Christian but not their other two games, TCU and BYU.

But it doesn’t benefit us to take the risk. It’s not worth a few extra million to have a team left out. FU to the world.

Didn’t SMU also have BYU and TCU OOC?

So LSU loses to SMU on a neutral field? No. They do not. This is nuts.

SMU OOC: BYU, TCU, Nevada, Houston Christian

Bama OOC: Wisconsin, USF, Western Kentucky, Mercer

SMU OOC > Bama OOC

?? they complain about OOC games and the games you lost weren’t even OOC. That’s not why you’re out. You lost in conference. Take it to 10 games and you have 4 losses instead of 3 ??
