Let's just hope the committee doesn't pay any attention to this and really uses true logic to determine who is in and who is out. To me, it's not even close to who is better. Even with 3 defeats, I think Bama is better than 50% of the field easily.

We all know the stats comparing Bama and SMU. Hell, Clemson lost to 2 SEC teams that Bama beat this year, so you can add that to the stats also!

Yeah, Bama should have taken care of oklahoma and Vandy...they failed but we are not comparing who we should have beat...we are comparing Alabama vs SMU

The committee only has to remember TCU and FSU.

At this point I have no idea what’s gonna happen. Would be cool to get in, but I can also see the committee being politically correct and sacrificing entertainment value (who really is pumped to watch SMU play in the playoffs besides SMU?)
and leaving Bama out with the new format just because of the optics and pressure. Either scenario is honestly believable to me, I was so sure last year that we weren’t getting in over FSU, so sometimes they surprise me, but again…my faith in them is kinda meh.

There were far more blowouts than close games in the 4 team system and we will have even more blowouts in this system, though they'll likely be delayed a round while mediocre teams battle it out round one.

Unfortunately, Bama haters are out in full-force to try to influence the selection of SMU over Bama. The selection committee took a ton of crap last year for taking a one loss Bama team over an undefeated Florida State team. Even though I think the results of the bowl games validated their decision, I don't think they have the appetite for that again this year. If SMU gets in, the real winner will be either Penn State or Notre Dame. Both of those teams would much rather play SMU than Bama. When Bama is firing on all cylinders, they can beat any team in the country. SMU can't. But, as you stated, if Bama would have taken care of biz with Oklahoma and Vander-freaking-bilt, we wouldn't be in this situation. Roll Tide!

I don't think the committee will punish SMU (smoo) because they played and lost a 13th game, and although I didn't watch it, the scoreboard reflects the stat line. It was close.

I predict smoo gets in.

We beat Vandy or OU like we should have and we would be in without question.

Right now, it's irrelevant as to whether or not SMU should be ranked ahead of Alabama. The fact of the matter is that they are, and they're ranked ahead with both teams playing a 12 game schedule.

If the committee believes SMU is better than Alabama with both having played 12 games, then why would they change their minds with SMU playing an extra game that Alabama didn't play?

That 13th data point will matter. You don't punish SMU for playing 13 games, when prior to the 13th game, you believed SMU was a better team than the teams behind them.

I think SMU gets in.

I watched the entire game. Clemson controlled the game from the start, and was clearly the better team. Neither team would have made 9-3 playing an SEC schedule.

While I agree that this scenario could potentially be what happens today, they have a track record of punishing those who play and lose in the conference championship games.

Never underestimate the number of "experts" (extreme sarcasm) and "journalists" who have an ax to grind with Alabama. They would literally endorse a team of terrorists who had killed Americans over Alabama.

Last year's incessant whining over FSU not getting in is a prime example even though it was as plain as day that FSU was nowhere near the team they were with their starting QB out.

That said, SMU plays in a sissy conference and played a sissy schedule. If they'd played Bama's schedule, they would have lost 2-3 more games.

Not according to the committee on Tuesday. They said if Clemson won they would have to reevaluate SMU. That means the 13th game will impact the decision.
