If no team will be punished for losing a Conference Champ Game?

I keep hearing this, it has to be bullshite.

If no team will be punished for losing a CCG, that means 8 spots are already wrapped up, and only 4 at-large spots remain.

Notre Dame and the G5 will get in.

So realistically, only 2 "at large" spots remain among the P4.

No conference champ loser is safe. None of them. Don't listen to their bullshite.

It is bullshite.

And teams should be.

But the loser of the SECCG won't be because they will still be better than others.

I have to think it’ll be situational. I think the SEC and B10 are safe. Big 12 and ACC are much murkier.

I just think they won't be scrutinized as harshly

I don't think SMU is a lock if they lose to Clemson.

A team that is otherwise in should not lose its spot for a loss in a conference title game.

But the ACC is truly only worthy of one playoff spot. SMU’s rank is based on the projection they are the best team in that league.

It is BS. CFP committee will put in whoever gives them the best TV matchups while having excuses to remain at least somewhat credible. GA need not worry. SMU should be terrified. Their 10k fans won’t buy Dr Pepper or eat Taco Bell anyway.

If Clemson loses to SMU, they'll be 9-4 with only 2 wins against teams with winning records and 0 against ranked opponents (of which they only faced 2).

They aren't getting in with that resume.

Didn't say they were

But if Georgia loses, do they get the same criticism as the other 3 loss teams in the SEC?

If this is truly the case they should just auto bid the top 2 and not bother with the title games. We declared conference champions for decades without a final game and nobody died.

I'd bet every penny to my name that Kirby Smart would be fine with Texas being SEC champions and skipping this game.

They should state all teams that are in the top 10 in this weeks poll are safe and will not drop in the final poll after CCG weekend.

And if UGA has to play Texas three times in one season, how much bullshite is that?

Texas should be out if they lose. They haven't beaten a ranked team all year.

When a team (like Georgia) is clearly in the playoffs based on numerous quality wins against good teams in the regular season, it seems highly unlikely the committee will punish them for playing one more very good team in a championship game.

However, when the question mark about a team is that they don't have quality wins against Top25 teams all season, it will be harder for the committee to ignore how they fare against a Top 25 in the Conference Championship Game.

Boise St, for example, would almost certainly be penalized if they lose their Championship Game to UNLV. They'll be out.

SMU would be too. The million dollar question would be if that puts them completely out.

The loser's will be punished by getting a lower seed than they otherwise would have.

The conferences where both participants are borderline are actually play in games.

For instance, SMU is in with a win and maybe even with a loss since they are going to be ranked 9 or so. So a bye with a win or on the road with a loss. That's punishing the loser. They could fall out with a loss but probably not if it is close. Clemson must win to get in at all.

The Big 12 is a pure play in game.

The SEC loser will fall in the seeding. The B1G loser will fall in the seeding. All the losers will be punished in some way.

It is bullshite. If we’re going to play again in 3 weeks, playing this conference championship game is ridiculous.

They will be punished by having to play an extra game in the first round so it’s still fair with the SEC and B1G, but the ACC, B1G, and MWC are jokes.

The lack of 10 in teams makes it harder to punish a cg loser
