Walters fired at Purdue

Really not a good recruiting class to raid. We did have interest in a DE Rashad Jones, 3 star. Former teammate of our freshman LB Beasley from Belleville, MI. But we have 4 star DE Javion Hilson who decommited from FSU that just visited Saturday. 24/7 has us as the favorite. LINK

Barry Odom hired to replace him. Not a bad hire but they will need to get him a lot of NIL money if they want to be competitive

Have a buddy who is Purdue alum ...
Told him to continue to expect disappointment with a potential hiring of ex-Mizzou coaches that were fired for performance ...
Unless he brings the OC with him, Odom will wind up like Walters in 4 years ... Big 10 football >>>> Mountain West (unless you're Boise) ...

Odom is an idiot. He could have been a legend at UNLV. Purdue? You won't be able to find his body at the bottom of that crater.

UNLV was perfect because he used a few D1 kids he met at Mizzou and Arky and he used the previous guys recruits. He better have great recruiting chops for Purdue.

Mike Scherer will be tagging along if Barry goes. He took a cellar level defense at UNLV and made it the #1 conference scoring defense in two years. He's a name to keep an eye on in the next few years.

The problem with a program like Purdue is crappy recruiting base and the few top level kids they develop get picked off by better programs with stronger NIL cash.
Mizzou has a decent recruiting base, conference access to TX and GA and FL, and can reach into the rust belt. People underestimate our NIL because of the way it's structured but we are pretty damn strong.
So the question is can Purdue make the off the field jumps that Mizzou made? Otherwise it's destined to be Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois etc. Maybe a breakthrough season every 10 years but 5-6 or 6-6 on the regular.

If he can keep his head above water at Purdue for 3 seasons, Odom will be out the door to better job.

Hell of a gamble. I say do 1 more at UNLV and then take the Arkansas job.

And there's the problem.

I think this was a terrible move by Barry but I am guessing his agent said this would be the best offer he would ever get while at UNLV. This will likely be his last head coaching job.

I don't necessarily agree but it's more apparent he's not CEO material.....not all coaches are.

Looks like Dan Mullen will replace Odom at UNLV
