How did we not get either Kiffin, Smart or Sarkisian while they were coordinators at Bama

They were all in our own backyard as Saban’s projects and we couldn’t land one.

Sarkasian: Texas is a monster
Smart: multinational championship winner
Kiffin: Has Ole Miss at a level they’ve never experienced

Instead we’ve had old Gus, Harsin and Freeze.

We were determined to tap out the Arkansas State coaching pipeline. I’m sure we’ll be looking at Butch Jones and Blake Anderson next offseason.

Smart was always waiting on Georgia, but you don't think kiffin would have gone to auburn over fau or we couldn't have gotten Lanning? Granted it would have had to be when we hired haskins and he wasn't as well known then but we definitely could have gotten him

Smart wasn't coming no matter what. He was always waiting on the Georgia job.

Sarkisian looked like a desperation reach after several bad choices. How long will his problems with alcohol stay solved? Hopefully forever, but understand that no one in CFB can out-recruit Texas if money is no object. Ewers and Manning each get $1M per year AND an Aston-Martin. Other UT players score Lambos. They literally had recruits walking down a row of revving Lambos on their equivalent of Big Cat Weekend. There is more big money within 40 miles of UT than there is in all of AL, probably more than there is in all of AU's alumni base. IIRC the count was six billionaires living here. Sark would be under a lot more pressure at AU on the recruiting front because we simply cannot throw down that type of $$.

Kiffin might have been possible, but his methods are suspect. They put everything they had into this year, only to lose three playing one of the easiest SEC schedules. Then they lose 28 of their two-deep to eligibility this year because Portal King, with no TFR in the two deep and precious few sophs. Is that really what you want?

The counter argument would be it's easier to recruit to Auburn than Ole Miss so maybe Kiffin wouldn't have to do it that way.

Brother I’d rather lose 3 games than 7. Or how about 5 games in two years instead of 14?

Give me a break.

Isn’t it true that Smart was coming to Auburn if we let him coach in the natty with Bama and TPTB said no?

Our fans have an unrealistic view of Auburn. We have never signed a great coach, closest was Tuberville from Ole Miss and they were on probation. Dye from Wyoming/East Carolina/Bama was not our first choice. We hired a coach that was 5-19 (he did win a nattie). Freeze is 100% on the hot seat, should have win more games.

ETA: Freeze was alll we could get.

Man I’d love to only lose 3 games. Trying to remember the last year we lost only 3 games

It’s crazy that people still don’t realize just how bad of shape the football program was in when Freeze took over. Only 40 scholarship players were on the team. No top notch coach was going to take the job.

No top notch coach is going to take that job when he's subject to the will and whims of a small group of wealthy boosters.

Top tier coaches demand to run their program their way. We've had good coaches, but none in demand because of our booster situation. Freeze is another example of this and in a year or two when he's gone, we'll hire more of the same.

Yesterday it was 50 players, today it's 40. The legend and excuse making continues.

What coach wants to deal with meddling boosters? …. as opposed to just regular boosters?

Coaching is hard enough as it is without having to deal with known booster drama

That’s at every damn school, especially with NIL now. It’s amazing how many Auburn fans have let uat fans gaslight them into thinking only Auburn has high powered boosters.
