Shocking to think two 17 year olds are now the most powerful people in college football!

Whether we like it or not, NIL/transfer portal is destroying college football and it's just getting started. For years, Nick Saban was known for processing players that didn't live up to expectations, but all that has changed now. The players are in total control and coaches are now being processed, if they don't meet the demands of the star players.
The reality is 17 year olds Ryan Williams and Bryce Underwood are now in total control of two of the blue blood programs of college football - Alabama and Michigan. Despite what some may believe, Williams will determine who is the QB at Alabama next season, not DeBoer. If Williams walks into DeBoer's office and says he wants Milroe or Stimpson to be the starting QB, that's who it will be.
Underwood holds the same power, and may be even more powerful, at Michigan. The No. 1 QB in the country has yet to officially enroll at Michigan, but it's clear he will be in total control of his career at Michigan - who will be the HC, his QB coach, what WRs will start and what plays will be called. How is that possible? Five words - Larry Ellison and Tom Brady! When software developer Ellison - the third richest man in the world worth 209 BILLION - requests to have a secret zoom meeting with a recruit's family and the recruit also gets a private phone call from Tom Brady, that is power!
Sadly, NIL is just getting started, and future offers are only going to get larger and more outlandish each year!
It's easy to understand why coaches like Saban and longtime Virginia basketball coach Tony Bennett decided it wasn't worth it anymore and it was best to just walk away.

The most powerful people in CFB are still the boosters.
They are just writing checks to the NIL funds now and not just to the coaches.

Society as a whole is completely upside down to how it should be. College football is just part of it.

How is UM ever gonna recruit another QB without breaking the bank every time? If they offer a dude $8 million, it’ll be an insult.

I wish someone would come along and insult me right now

Actually, Underwood is just a pawn on the board of life being played by a megabillionaire’s 5th wife. Ellison doesnt give a shite about Michigan football but his trophy wife does. Michigan better hope 80 yr old Larry dont dump this one anytime soon…

Good point. It's sad that this is what college athletics has become because it has absolutely nothing to do with college.
The worst part is NIL is in its infant stage, so the money being thrown around is only going to get larger and more outlandish!

People like you NEVER complained when coaches were getting salaries equal to the GDP of small countries. NEVER complained about the disgusting corporate sponsorships exploited by NCAA and school athletic departments. NEVER complained when football players get special privileges that any 4.0 student gets who didn't happen to run fast with a football.
NOW for some reason you are crying about the "honor" and "dignity" of a supposed student driven sporting event which was never intended to be NFL lite that we see now.
This corrupt sport was tarnished LONG before the NIL man. Really curious why just now you are suddenly outraged.

This could have been done in 3 sentences:
NIL and the transfer portal have turned college football into a teenager's playground.
Coaches are getting processed while 17-year-olds like Ryan Williams and Bryce Underwood call the shots.
No wonder Saban retired.

Eventually you have to think boosters won't throw money away.

Michigan pulled a Cleveland Browns type maneuver massively over paid for a QB without knowing he could really contribute….
The Browns were ruined…derailed for at least 5 years…
Michigan is ruined for ever….

Not sure what's to complain about - coaches had contracts and were responsible for improving the revenue for a lot of universities. That some universities chose NOT to help the student bodies with this influx of cash is not the coach's fault.

I know a LOT of people who did complain. It started with the bowl games (I'm old enough to remember when it went from the "Sugar Bowl" to the "USF&G Sugar Bowl") - absolutely hated and did complain about corporate tie-ins.

People have complained a LOT about this. It just never originated from people with actual power to affect change.

It isn't "new", but it is definitely more in the open and way, WAY more egregious.
Consider the issue:
These are kids. They haven't REALLY proven anything. Plenty of 5* kids don't pan out, but they'll be millionaires before we know that. At least when you get to the NFL, the number of big contract busts are so small most people can name them individually. That won't happen in the era of NIL - AND there's no regulation, like there is in the NFL. The greatest QB ever in the history of football could be up in the draft and there's only so much money they could get. Coming out of HS? No cap, no limit. Imagine going to a company with just your high school diploma and a small but impressive program you wrote and then demand you get paid as much as the CFO. **THAT** is the issue at hand.

Tarnished, yes - but there's a difference between the occasional liver spot and full blow, stage 4 skin cancer.
