Any Strength of record that has Texas # 5 with that joke schedule needs to have its computer program redone.

1-loss teams behind Texas

BYU
Miami
Notre Dame
SMU

Texas' schedule isn't any worse than those 4.

Any team that can't have just 1 loss with TX schedule right now shouldn't be in the top 10. If it wasn't for the TX name and them being in the SEC they wouldn't be a top 10 playoff ranking right now.

Penn State's best win is Illinois and they're ranked #4. Ohio State's only win over a team with a pulse is...........that same Penn State team.

It's not just Texas.

True - they start some of these teams so high the rankings can be really off later.

A lot of it comes down the inherent (in this case something in the computer formula, in voting something deep in people's brains) that sees 1 loss and 2 losses and just cannot fathom the 2 loss in front of the 1 loss UNLESS one of the teams is from a small league.

Indiana is an awesome story, and they've whooped up on a lot of bad teams. They have not played a single team yet who is guaranteed to go to a bowl game, led alone a Top 25 team, led alone a top 10 team. Their season to date is closer to playing a FCS schedule than what Georgia or Alabama or Florida has played.

#36 Michigan (5-5)
#42 Washington (6-5)
#48 Nebraska (5-5)
#61 UCLA (4-6)
#73 Maryland (4-6)
#76 Northwestern (4-6)
#79 Michigan State (4-6)
#130 Florida International (3-7)
#137 Charlotte (3-7)
#235 Western Illinois (3-8)

Is there anyone who would bet Indiana straight up over Bama?

Or BYU over Tennessee?

Or Miami over Ole Miss?

Ole Miss alone who is FEI #4 at 12 is enough to show the entire methodology is broken.

Bullshite Preseason Rankings affect perception

But ESPN rankings and methodologies usually make zero sense

Penn State is even higher and like Texas only played one team with a pulse, and lost.

But I don't think it's even about that, because that's saying "who is 'better'". This is about who has proven/achieved/earned more. And it's ridiculous to try and compare a team that has played 6 Top 30 teams (Georgia) or 5 Top 30 teams (Alabama) to a team that has played 0.

Like, we aren't talking the difference in a couple of games. Multiple teams with 1-2 losses have played more than half their schedule against the best 30 teams in the country according to every advanced metric. Other 0-1 loss teams have YET TO PLAY A TOP 30 TEAM.

You aren't comparing apples to apples.

I would give a high scoring team a chance to beat some of these 2 loss SEC teams.

The playoff seeding is going to be really interesting. There are enough teams that will make the playoff who will be flat out "gimme" games for the top teams that you could see a team with a cakewalk to the championship game.

ESPN is after the teams that will produce the most TV revenue.

Facts are not part of the program.

AP Poll

vs #12 Boise State (W - 37-34)
vs #2 Ohio State (W - 32-31)
vs #24 Illinois (W - 38-9)

Solid set of wins, though their road games have been pretty easy.

@ Oregon State
@ UCLA
@ Purdue
@ Michigan
@ Wisconsin

More than you think.

-OU is 5-5 and their only conference win is against Auburn.
-UF is 5-5. They have MSU, UK and now LSU (MSU and UK are the two worst teams in the conference).
-Arkansas is 5-5. They had their upset over UT, but other than that their wins are Auburn and MSU.
-Vandy is 6-4. They have their upset over Bama but other than that their wins are over Auburn and UK.

If you notice... those wins are against mostly the same bad teams. They've been beaten by the majority of the teams with a pulse who've played them. Just because they got a nut here or there doesn't mean beating them all is an accomplishment.

As for Michigan, they are 5-5 on the season. Their P5 wins are Southern Cal (5-5), Minnesota (6-4) and Michigan State (4-6).

Beating a bunch of 5-5 and 6-4 teams isn't a huge accomplishment.
