Means nothing with the 12 team playoff.... Better to miss it than make it. It use to mean more than the national championship game

This is the first I’ve heard this

I agree. Under the current CFP format, it wouldn't bother me if UGA failed to make it as long as we're in the playoffs.
I mentioned earlier this year that conference championship games were going to begin getting diminished in the eyes of teams in lieu of the new format.

The sad part is the conference is more concerned about making money off a single meaningless game than helping their teams be ready for the playoffs. If a team lost critical starter in the SECCG, they should sue the conference for ruining their playoff year.

Absolutely. Y’all are in a prime position. I would gladly change places any other year and not have to face a top tier opponent in an unnecessary game . But Texas needs to win the SEC this year, because, reasons..

What is the real advantage to getting to a conference championship game?
You get a bye week.
But, what advantage is it to have that bye? You've already played an extra game that most of the other teams in the playoff bracket didn't have to play.
And, what about a conference championship loser? You're playing an extra game in addition to not getting a bye.
So seeds 5-12 would play 16 games
Seeds 5-12 that may have played in a conference champiponship - 17 games
Seeds 1-4 still play 16 games (including conference championship game

It comes out in the wash. If you get the bye, you did it by playing an extra game so no conference winner actually plays an extra game vs other playoff teams.
The loser of the conference championship does have an additional game compared to everyone else. That’s tha damning part. An extra loss possibly blocking a playoff bid, and an extra game if you do make it.

It means quite a bit to us
The primary goal every year is to win the conference championship

9/10 the best team in the SEC wins the conference. This year, that may not be the case. That hurts the conference

So what would happen if one of the teams in Championship game get blown out?? Plus that’s 3 losses.

When it goes to 16 teams, they will get rid of the game that use to decide so much

I never heard a single SEC team say they don't have being SEC champions as their season goals.
