If a 10-2 SEC or Big 10 team misses out because of it, those two will take their ball and leave in 2 years

i’m okay with including a G5.. that isn’t the problem imo.. we need less byes or we need to change how byes are awarded

1 Oregon
8 Notre Dame vs 9 Miami

4 Penn State
5 Indiana vs 12 Boise State

3 Texas
6 BYU vs 11 Ole Miss

2 Ohio State
7 Tennessee vs 10 Alabama

Obviously Georgia would beat Boise, and I would prefer 14 or 16 teams, but the automatic byes for 4 CC doesn’t work.

Oregon vs Notre Dame

PSU vs Indiana

Texas vs Ole Miss

Ohio State vs TN/AL

Those are great games.. especially once Indiana gets demoted.

Anything with AQ status is a flaw.

Heard one of the TV sports guys propose the following: let the Group of 5 have their own separate playoff. Use some of the other bowls that have been around to stage it. That way someone in the Group of 5 will actually win a natty.

I agree that allowing a Group 5 member to take away a spot that belongs to a Power Four league is a huge flaw. Needs to be abolished in 2026; and the Group of Five needs to get busy and let their best teams compete for something meaningful.

The biggest flaw is the absurdly unbalanced new super-conferences.

I agree. They couldn’t compete in this conference. The system needs work.

It’s worse than that. The Big 12 is only marginally better than the G5.

Notre Dame needs to told to pick a conference or they’re out. Playing the cupcake schedule they do with the exception of 1 or 2 at the most semi-decent teams isn’t going to cut it.

As was said, it’s only going to take a couple years for the SEC and the Big 10 to blow it up. Less if we get some real mass chaos and a 1 loss Indiana as well as a 2 loss Georgia/Texas/Etc gets left out.

There is a very realistic scenario out there that could put A&M AND LSU in the SECCG. If that happens you could have 2 loss

Texas
Georgia
Alabama
The stinking Vols
Ole Miss

With 2 slots to fill there. You could hear the screaming from space if that happens.

I can't even believe 80% of G5's are still financially afloat

some of them are one booster away from being completely bankrupt IMO - like if the proverbial Gordon Gecko came in and raided that one booster's mini-dynasty and carved it up, the G5 depending on that guy would need to pack it up and move to FCS.

...flip side of that, I'm glad that human beings of any stripe do want to be upwardly motivated and competitive

That's the American way

politically speaking though, universities are charging students outrageous tuition and fees and et cetera, then the students default on loans, then the taxpayers end up footing the bill - that situation is growing

I’ve been saying for 20 years that the smaller D1A schools need their own deal. Ridiculous to think Toledo should have to compete for the same title as Alabama.

Give them their own deal, then create conference challenges within the P4, this would give you a lot more data on which conference is the strongest and awarding playoff spots.

Power schools shouldn’t even play a G5 school. We have the super conferences but how many good games are on each week? Horrible value for the fans.

Do it like euro soccer and let teams work they’re way up/down based on record.

I think Boise St would man-handle BYU.

I think Conferences should get an auto bid, but not auto Top-4.

Today is November 13th. Indiana has still not played a team with a winning record. I don't understand how you can possibly justify giving them a playoff spot based on their body of work. The human element needs to be removed from the decision making process. There's too much conference politicking involved and too much money at stake.

It's a DEI football call, but a carryover from the NY6 . It's going nowhere

Does suck that a BYU team (as Big 12 is essentially G5 material now) and a Boise St team are likely putting out a quality FBS real P2 team.

Sir, this is a playoff thread.

The PAC 12 champion could possibly make the playoff if Boise State loses a game but they might keep Boise State over them even with 2 losses.
