I heard a guy from Mississippi say that he has left a trail of destruction everywhere he has been.

Does anyone know anything related to this?

Who knows, when I want to seek advice on what it takes to build a championship-caliber team I don't seek out Mississippi State fans.

Nah I’m just interested in how he screwed Miss St and then weaseled his way to the Plains.

As a coach or AD? Details matter...did you not engage with the guy and ask what he meant? Could have been him talking about overloading toilets...

Context is needed.

Otherwise insert your name into that statement about this message board. See how easy that is to do?

Cohen’s major draw was his work with facility upgrades and improvements, which he did a very good job of at State. I think his tenure at State overall had some of their better success across all athletics, but I’m sure there were areas he was far from perfect in.

Just like others. One thing he does have over other ADs is that he was a coach in the SEC (yeah baseball but still a coach). That will work well with understanding the coaching aspect etc...

This thread is not retarded, it is actually somewhat forward thinking (unlike many rant threads).

If things with CHF stay on the same trajectory then this AD will be a key player in finding the next head coach. We would be wise to look at what he has done in the past to see how he is likely to handle things at Auburn.

Except for the fact that Cohen has only been one place, thus eliminating the whole “trail of destruction” theory presented

So yeah, if we ignore the premise of the OP it’s genius

Stop picking at words,….it is not so much “trail of destruction “ as it is what did he do at Miss State as AD? If he screwed up some key hires there, then…

So does anyone have a list of coaches he hired at Miss State?

Cohen has been MSU’s AD since 2016, when he transitioned into the role from serving as the baseball coach. He played baseball at Mississippi State in the late 1980s before pursuing a coaching career.

Cohen oversaw a crucial period in MSU athletics. He hired Chris Lemonis as baseball coach in 2019, which led to the university’s first national title in a team sport in 2021.

While Cohen wasn’t the one who hired Vic Schaefer as women’s basketball coach, it was in his tenure as AD that the program saw three Elite Eight runs, including two national title appearances.

Mississippi State Athletic Director John Cohen introduces new MSU basketball coach Chris Jans during a news conference at MSU in Starkville Wednesday. March 23, 2022.
Cohen also hired Mike Leach as football coach in 2020. Most recently, he hired Chris Jans (men’s basketball) and Sam Purcell (women’s basketball) to take over the programs amidst renovations to Humphrey Coliseum in hopes of rejuvenating the brand of basketball in Starkville.

However, not all of Cohen’s moves are appreciated at MSU. His hiring of Nikki McCray-Penson after Schaefer’s departure led to a drop in the program. After Dan Mullen left for Florida in 2017, Cohen hired Joe Moorhead, whose tenure as football coach lasted two seasons.

I know he was the AD at moo state and did everything he could to wreck ole siss and the current head coach over there at the time. Fast forward 2 years ago he hires the same guy as the current head coach at Auburn.

His coaching record in baseball is pretty good. He also oversaw MSU's only national title in any major sport as their AD.

ETA: He also was able to hire Leach. The Moorehead hire was bad. But that was kinda sprung on them when Mullen dipped out. Looks like some hits and some misses.
