Payton Thorne and Fairweather suck, and Hugh made a boneheaded play call on the WR pass. However there were people wide open and Thorne takes check downs and won’t push the ball downfield. Also have to give Freeze a couple more cycles to recruit. Am I close?

Close. There were plays to be made if we had a QB that could get them the ball. Good and bad play calls.

I want to believe that if we had a QB who could make these open plays, HF wouldn't be so inclined to reach for these silly trick plays. I'm giving him next season but he better develop one of these QBs or not miss in the portal again.

I have never been a fan of Hugh freeze and never will be for numerous reasons. He is not a good game day coach and regardless of talent on team will continue to lose games that should be automatic wins. However, give credit where credit is due, he is a good recruiter. If he can manage to keep the current recruiting class in tact and not lose too much to the portal this team should be pretty decent next year provided a major upgrade at QB, and should be really good the following years providing recruiting continues to excel. Freeze needs to recognize the shortcomings of his offense and play calling and completely turn those duties over to a competent OC. Freeze should only be allowed to make calls regarding 4th downs and extra points.

Freeze was handed 2yrs of open NiL funds because Hardin never got any. He’s just buying players. Nobody knows if any of them will be long term options for us. 1/3 will leave etc. But you can bet Freeze will have and excuse or three

We’re Auburn fans, aren’t we?? Hahahahahahahahaha
Seriously though, it was a pretty good breakdown of some of the plays. I felt better knowing that we could have success in the future with the right QB.

It’s been like that all year unfortunately, which is why I’ve largely been against those calling out playcalling. Not to say there hasn’t been issue there and with the struggles at QB, we should have run the ball more, but that isn’t who Hugh is. We all called for that when we had Gus. We will be a heavier passing team.
When your QB just refuses to throw to the open people and predetermined where he is going, these are the results you get.

Seriously? EVERYONE is "just buying players" now. Do you know what the NIL deal is for Texas' two QBs? One freakin' million dollars AND an Aston Martin to drive.
We can't compete with that unless the HC and the staff are good recruiters. We appear to have that part down at least.

Agreed. That’s a horseshite statement. All schools doing it. Harsin was just not good at recruiting.

Freeze needs another year with a different QB.

Why didn’t Freeze engage our best player more in the Vandy game plan, and specifically the 2nd half? That’s the question I keep hearing from those who felt that the rushing attack game plan worked against Kentucky.
Big difference… our OL was effective against UK, it got manhandled by Vanderbilt. Dominated . The number of MA’s and whiffs was music to Vandy’s ears. Jarquez was turned into a blocker, that’s why he wasn’t running the football. Their Defense had 7 sacks !
Remember the drive where Auburn took possession on the half-yard line?
1st and 10 …. Run for 1/2 yard
2nd and 9.5 … Run for no gain
3rd and 9.5 …. Incomplete , desperation pass attempt of 21 yards
Absolutely zero OL push on any play. Auburn O-front is 15th out of 16 programs in the SEC. This is a root-cause , persistent problem that must be addressed now. Playcalling is extremely limited when you cannot trust you LoS. That is fact.
