Arkansas/Ole Miss Rivalry...dating back to 1908

Arkansas leads series 38-29-1
Record in Fayetteville: Arkansas leads 12-2
Series Notes: Arkansas and Ole Miss met for the first time in 1908, with Arkansas winning 33-0. The schools have met every season since 1981. The programs also played every season from 1940-47 and 1952-62. The 1960 Ole Miss/Arkansas game had plenty of controversy. Ole Miss won 10-7 in Little Rock. Tommy Bell called timeout prior to a field goal attempt. Ole Miss kicker Allen Green and the Ole Miss FG unit did not hear the whistle and played on. The FG sailed through the uprights and the officials signaled it was good. With Arkansas coaches arguing with officials, fights broke out in the stands between Ole Miss & Arkansas fans throughout the stadium. One year later, the annual series was canceled due to concerns of Ole Miss & Arkansas fans not getting along during games.
The two teams have also played twice in the Sugar Bowl (1963 & 1970), both won by Ole Miss.
In 2001, Arkansas and Ole Miss played, at that time, the longest NCAA football game in history. Arkansas won 58-56 in 7OT.
At the end of the 2007 season, Houston Nutt who was forced out of Arkansas, took the head coaching position at Ole Miss just hours later. Houston Nutt brought his Rebels to Fayetteville in 2008 and won 23-21. Nutt was let go by Ole Miss after the 2011 season.
In 2015, the game dubbed "4th & 25" and celebrated annually on 4/25 by the SECRant, kept Ole Miss from making their first appearance in Atlanta. Arkansas kept the game from ending on a 4th and 25 conversion, where QB Brandon Allen passed to TE Hunter Henry. When Henry saw he was going to be tackled, he sent the ball backwards to RB Alex Collins, who picked the ball up on the bounce and scampered 31 yards to gain a first down. Shortly after in OT, Arkansas scored a touchdown. Instead of kicking the extra point, Arkansas elected to go for two one OT period sooner than the OT rules require. Arkansas initially was sacked on the two point try. Unfortunately for Ole Miss, there was a flag for face mask on Marquis Haynes when he sacked Brandon Allen. On the re-try, Arkansas converted and and Ole Miss no longer controlled their own destiny in the SEC West. The loss cost Ole Miss the West championship and Alabama would go on to Atlanta (Ole Miss beat Alabama earlier in the season).

yep, this game always seems to play out strange. I remember the Tommy T
"nothing stinks worse than a wet pig" comment before a game we trounced them in.
Plus all of overtimes.

Ole Miss and Fayetteville do not go good together...Super pumped it's an 11:00 kick though, that may help.

Have people flying in for the game. I gave them the option before the season between Tennessee, LSU, Ole Miss, and Texas.
Said it don’t matter which game they picked, games between us and any of those four are usually entertaining.

Third party checking in to mention this is a fun series of which I have fond memories watching impartially. The kind of series that isn’t recognized as a major rivalry, but will be sad to see fade as a result of expansion.
All that said, 4th and 25 was my favorite :)

Watching Deuce McAlister run all over the Hogs from the north end zone for 1 of those 2 was a real treat. I think Dale played 4 QB that day? Quick trigger, baby.

Had Arkansas and Ole Miss continued the series in the 60s then it would have been one of the better rivalries in college football.

That was an awesome read Hawgeye.
If I'm not mistaken there has been a lot of OM/UA games that were plagued by some brutal weather. A few years back it was so cold in F'ville that OM's offense couldn't find the end zone and lost 30-0... good times

Grew up a diehard Hog fan in Mississippi as both parents were from Arkansas and both graduated from there.
Went to Ole Miss but Hogs will always be my #2.
Earliest memories as a hog fan were the Quinn Grovey, Barry Foster, Ken Hatfield years. And that rolled into the Rolling with Nolan days in basketball. Great times to be a hog fan.

OM AD is a kid who grew up loving the Hogs, from a TINY little town called Perryville. Nolan wouldn't give him a schollie, so he went ot Ole Miss and terrorized Nolan's teams for his entire career, and I now he's the AD, still terrorizing the U of A.
