Would Bama have been better off if they had hired Mike Elko?

In the early going, it seems as if Elko has "fixed" some of the cultural problems at A&M.

Meanwhile, DeBoer is only making the problems at Bama worse. The team seems to be getting worse each week.

I think elko was a great hire for aggie.

I don't think bama made a good choice. I am in the camp of anybody following saban would struggle. Shoes are too big

Probably gonna have an LSU type season this year, 3-4 losses.

Could be worse.

Great minds b/c I just posted a thread about this here LINK /

about how Elko benched Reed b/c he's a limited QB for a passing QB who can do more for their program than. Elko didn't succumb to the players, fans or media telling him to stick with Reed.

I thought it was a good hire at the time, just because of his win percentage.

I don't know what's going on there now.

Milroe played like shite and Vandy is now ranked higher than USCw.

What's the mystery?

That doesn't explain the defense being trash.

You have a coach with one of the best winning percentages in the game plus the most talent in the country and the team looks worse every time they step on the field.

Elko would never have signed with Bama as Tuscaloosa doesn't have enough all-you-can-eat buffets to support his appetite.

looking at the wins and losses...I'd say they'd be better off at this point.

but the big question is what's Elko's ceiling...I feel like most prob feel like deboer has a higher ceiling in the long run still just based on what he was was able to do at Washington.

If you legitimately think you can determine the entire vector of a head coaching tenure/career seven games in, you're certainly better than me (because I can't).

Where do you think Brian Kelly goes from this moment, undefeated here on out and wins the national championship?

Elko had a history with aggies that helps
Probably would have had some growing pains at bama as well

We knew we would have problems in the secondary before the season started. Saban said that, so it's kind of hard to ignore.

That said, I can't say I understand the 3rd and 4th down play calling. We rely on turnovers and offensive mistakes to get off the field and that's not great - especially when your QB is shitting the bed. Defense overall played well enough to beat Tennessee.

No doubt we have talent and that's why it was hoped we'd have a better year. But the talent wasn't selected/built on what we are trying to do now and this will be the last year we see a QB like Milroe.

Bigger worry for me is with culture and the attitudes of the players. I've said it before I haven't liked Alabama players for years now, and these guys are just as bad. I hate that trash talking and all that look at me shite. I still have PTSD from the UCLA pregame show in 2000. Josh Chapman coming in with a cigar was more suited for Miami than Alabama. That is not the way.

Elko was a top 5 DC in his time.

His career trajectory is solid. He was not a gamble. We know what we were getting.

Bama did not.

Why? Because they almost lost to Bowling Green and were in danger against State?

The defense is learning a new system with several freshmen starting or playing significant minutes. The offense is a mixture of last year’s offense with sprinkles of the new system. And Milroe is just not a good quarterback. He is 10 percent highlights and 90 percent bad.

Yeah, if you tell me how many points Tennessee has midway through the 4Q with our banged up secondary, I'm feeling pretty good.

When Ryan Williams is wide open multiple times and only has to make a move on a single white safety for the go-ahead score, again, I'm feeling pretty good.

Us instead completely missing those throws and going three-and-out multiple times has absolutely nothing to do with Mike Elko coming in and fixing cultural problems.

Deboer's speech and demeanor makes me wonder if he is in touch with reality; unless he is just "coach speaking" out his azz.

I don't think it was a good move by Bama.

Deboer is a good coach, but I don't think Bama's ready for that yet. They still want "Saban", which won't happen no matter how good the new guy is. They need to get that out of their system first, and THEN go get their guy.

Doboer is wasted right now, he's going to get chewed up by the machine.
