He is already the only Oklahoma coach to lose to Texas twice by more than 30 points.. This is only year 3.. his seat is already hot.. He probably gets 1 more year to fix it.. but if they don't turn it around by next year, he is gone..

Riley really left them in ruins. But I’m not complaining.

I felt like he showed why he has been a career coordinator on Sat
Both sides of the ball were completely disorganized and he left that poor overmatched true FR hang out to dry at QB

It’s not like they can do better. Are they going to get Swagnasty Beamer to coach them?

Oklahoma is puzzling. I can see their dominance dropping off in the SEC similar to Nebraska once the Big 12 was formed.
They’ll probably still recruit Texas but now they only have one game there every season as opposed to the 3-4 they used to have.
Oklahoma rolled the dice giving Venables his first HC opportunity. He may be a great DC but that doesn’t always translate to being good at what a HC does.

I have a lot of respect for coaches who realize where they belong.
Bud Foster for example knew he was a DC. He didn't ever bother to try to become a HC, he just stayed with what he was good at.
Will Muschamp is also a good DC, but kept trying to be a head coach. I can't really blame him as it made him some big paydays... but the reality is he's an elite DC and a mediocre to poor HC.
Venables looks more like those guys. It will be interesting to see if he goes back to being a DC for the rest of his career once his stint at OU is over, or if he keeps trying to be a head coach for the money.
Hell it could be worse... he could be Sam Pittman. He topped out as a OL coach. He's the best OL coach in the nation by far, but that's still his ceiling.

disagree.. the right coach can win there.. DFW is close enough that you can get a lot of recruits out of that area and East Texas, but they traditionally get the other half from across the country.
Idk their NIL situation, but I believe they will be good with the right coach.
A good QB would also solve a lot of their problems though. If they had kept Gabriel, they would be pretty good this year.

Believe I’ve heard this before. A lot of P5 schools can say that.
But outside of Stoops and Switzer’s (cheating days), who has had the same level of success?

Bud Wilkinson
145–29–4 and 3 NC
Barry Switzer
157–29–4 and 3 NC
Bob Stoops
191–48 and 1 NC
Lincoln Riley
55-10
That's a lot of winning.. consistently since the 1950s
Combined 548-116-8 (82.1%)

Next year
You say that sitting at 4-2 which looks disappointing but still tolerable. How do the natives feel about BV when OU is 5-7 or 6-6 and the recruiting class unravels? How about when he can’t attract the portal guys he needs? Do you even want BV navigating your offensive issues moving forward? Y’all need to pull the plug. His mismanagement of the roster, especially the QB position, this past offseason is unforgivable.

I blame Stoops actually. He built that program into the monster that is has been since 2000 BUT he handed it over to someone who wasn’t ready to take the reins.

Where will he go? Back to Clemson?

You are talking about playing against lesser talent teams in the Big 12 and the SEC teams with much better talent.

Venables is not on a hot seat. Seth Littel and Joe John Finley the co OC guys are on a hot seat. The offense is terrible

What coach has not cheat? Aggies should know it well.
