Texas’s first real test, not about the team.

DKR has historically never been known as a particularly intimidating atmosphere.
Growing up, I have always had it explained to me the reason for that was the stadium was a poor design with a running track and open horseshoe. Combined with the fact that the west side was filled with people there not so much for the game, but to make connections with others. Politically and Socially.
The 1990 Houston game was different, our hair was on fire for that game and the atmosphere was incredible.
But that was a rare event.
Through the hard work of our current AD, Chris Del Conte, Saturday night should mark a turning point in the perception of our stadium and atmosphere. It’s incredible how much has changed.
But just as much as the team, the Texas fan base must prove it.

This is still the loudest game I have ever attended. I was still in HS and went with my parents.. I may be wrong, but I can't recall another time where our fans rushed the field either.. before the game was over too..

UH was #3 and undefeated and Butch Hadnot and the boys kicked their asses up and down the field.

I’m curious how many fans Georgia will bring. I’d imagine Austin was the game they had circled and I still remember how many fans they brought to Baton Rouge in 2018. Never seen anything like it, they took the town over that wknd.

I remember buying $10 tickets at the grocery store and going to games where maybe 1 in 5 people had on any Texas gear… most were there for the tailgate and bar hopping afterwards. Lots of fair weather fans back then.
Mack Brown can be credited with changing that. It’s completely different now than the late 80s /early 90s.
I was there in 1990 for UH and remember hi fiving Gardere after we rushed the field. He was shorter in person than on TV.

Look at the secondary prices, people are not selling. My father was joking to me that he could sell his ticket and pay for multiple seasons, but he’s 86 and wants to die in his seat.

That game went down as a legend for crowd noise, but I still can't figure out how we got so fired up over Houston - no matter their ranking.
I think Saturday will be a great crowd. Notre Dame about 6-7 years ago was loud, The Joe Burrow game was loud... but these games didn't end loud because we lost.
We're ranked #1. Fans will show. This will be one for the history books. Count on that.

UGA always travels well. They made South Bend almost look like a home game.

It more likely depends on how many tickets we gave them. I know our folks aren't selling theirs.
That's a lot of freaking tickets for South Bend to give to visitors.

It’s also the case that the larger the city is, the more likely the game is to attract non-university affiliated attendees—people simply looking to fill a few entertainment hours on a Saturday (or because someone gave them tickets) and not because they’re off-the-grid passionate about the schools/teams (e,g., UCLA, Miami).
Those folks tend not to be as rowdy.
Conversely, there’s a better chance that people who take the time/expense to travel to places like Clemson, SC, State College, PA, or Blacksburg, VA are graduates or true fans of the teams on the field.

True, but it's getting where you really need to want to go to enjoy a DKR game. If you want to be there, you will love it. If you are indifferent, the whole thing is way too much trouble. (and cost)

I think there would have been way more if it wasn’t also F1 weekend.

I kinda wish all that other shite wasn't going on. Should I just park in Round Rock and thumb the rest of the way?

I hope they are prepared to have fans walk up to them and bark in their faces, it could be interesting just walking around and people watching the interactions

I had a Georgia alum and friend tell me, "I've stayed in an on the water bungalo in Fiji for SLIGHTLY more than hotels/airnbnb's are asking for a night. Get real Austin".
But yea F1 demographic is international and wealthy, so what you gonna do?

Sounds like a homeless person.
