Offensively
-Play calling was so-so at times but we could've easily scored thirty plus.
-Jalen Milroe reverted back to staring down receivers. He wasn't good today.
-Line needs to continue gelling. (Wasn't their best game today)
-Running backs did good to me when they got touches.
-Wide Receivers/Tight Ends did a good job of blocking and catching passes.
Defensively
-Play calling was better
Defensive line play was okay for the most part. (Jury is still out on Freddie Roach)
-Linebackers is where the problem lies. Campbell has been terrible the last two games and Deontae Lawson has been suspect as well. Thank God for Justin Jefferson! He will arrive on the scene quickly. I'm not a big fan of Koht by the way.
-Corners played pretty good for the most part. We had a busted coverage but other than that they were good.
-Safeties are suspect as well. They don't read and react like Wommack's safeties at USA! They aren't fluid enough. Maybe put Mbakwe back there in some packages.
Special Teams
-Kick & Punt return duties should only be handled by Cole Adams. I'm tired of seeing straight line runners with no vision. Cole Adams scan the field like one suppose to. Henderson doesn't move the needle for me.
By the way this is suppose to be a player led team...
I don't get the Kane Wommack hate because this defense was pretty darn good the first couple of games.
Then this crap started to happen.
-Missed tackles (multiple behind the line or at the line of scrimmage)
-Not staying in your gap/lane
-Busting Assignments
Players need to start taking pride and accountability in their play. Campbell was terrible first half shoot matter of fact on one drive South Carolina had...he was the reason why they scored. From him missing tackles, not staying in his lane, or busting assignments.
Like it's all on tape. This is no lie!
Past 2 games are littered with missed tackles and not playing your keys.
That's it. Everybody else jumping off a ledge and those are the two biggest issues that the defense has. Fix these issues and the sky is the limit.

My .02c.......
Defensive play calling has been suspect. We've had a ton of TOs which is wild considering we give up a lot of points and can't get off the field due to penalties, poor tackling, etc.
Malachi Moore has stated that we have a hard time with getting the play calls in on time. I'm not sure why Womack isn't in the Booth when you can communicate down to the players. Seems like now-a-days there is more reason to be in the booth than on the field. Also, our blitz play calling is woeful. It seems we never blitz and when we do it's a FS/SS Zone Blitz. We have so many freshmen DBs and we rely on rushing three and playing soft zones all the time.
Our LBs are #2 (Campbell) and #3 (Lawson) in tackles in the SEC. This scheme has them running all over the place and when you mix this with quick scoring and on the field for a shite ton of time.... They wear out QUICK. I don't think our play calling does them any favorites.
Our DL rarely closes gaps and hold to the point of attack it seems. When they do, the LBs can feast but a lot of times we have OL on our LBs.
Offensively, Milroe has played pretty solid. The last two games he has made some questionable decisions but still fairly solid. He tends to be selfish at times with his play and has to improve his situational football.
I don't have a ton of bad issues with Offensive play calling. It is kind of mind blowing that we emptied the clip against UGA 1st half and then since then all creativity is out of the window. I'd like to see more pre-snap motion, etc. to help Milroe identify the play coverage.
For Kalen DeBoer, he is way less intense than Saban. We've been blessed and believe we have to win a certain way. We don't. Coaches like Saban don't grow on trees. The two largest questions that I have for DeBoer are: (1) can he win with players that want to be strongly held accountable. Very different style than Saban. If you want DOGS on defense and offensive line... you have to be on their arse. (2) can he make the tough interpersonal decisions? He seems way too nice at times and I think he can lose the locker room as well and he sure as hell doesn't adjust in game.

Oh, also.... some of these maybe a hot take...
1. Best DL (Edge) players are Kyle Kennard and Dylan Stewart. You may can make the argument that USC has the best edge defenders than any other team in CFB.
2. Vandy's pistol option scheme is super tough to defend. People need to realize that they are better than their brand. With that being said; we still should have won that game.

He also has a tendency to put the ball on the ground before the play is over.

Kane Wommack
LB assignment issues persist - not gap sound , catching blocks and RB's rather than crashing the LoS at the right place. Pass rush - 3 or 4 vs 5or 6 man blocking system puts way too much pressure on the young DB's KW needs to ratchet up the pressure on passing downs. Just not the same way every time.

It all starts up front. I’ve been saying it for a few years, but our interior DL has been subpar. Yes we’ve had good edge players but we really haven’t had a dynamic interior DL in years.
I think we could excuse some of the lackluster secondary play on youth but our experienced players, #13 and 3, have been utter dog poo.
LBs have also been dog poo.
But we make up for that subpar play with a shittiey scheme. The only time our defense dictates the play is when we all out blitz. And when we go 3 DL, the splits are so wide you could drive a Mack truck through them.
It’s all disconcerting, because it’s BOTH scheme and players. It’s not like we are seeing potential but the players just need more experience.

If tweet fails to load, click here. He's done great against the blitz at times this season. He's just got to get more consistent.

DeBoers comment after UGA about snapping the ball at 16 seconds instead of running the clock sure makes a lot more sense now

Give him time. This is only his 4th year of college ball.

Domani Jackson has been very good.
Tim Smith played probably the best game of his career.
Our special teams coach is a fricking idiot.
Probably a whole bunch of cardiac issues among the fan base after that onside kick. I hope Pawpaw wasnt looking.

My thoughts:
WAAAAAAY too many missed tackles or sloppy tackling. Our guys need to lay the wood and wrap up.
Offensive line is way too erratic. Need to be more consistent.
Milroe was so so. The INT was terrible. We all agree he's an incredible athlete but his decision making isn't always the best. I'd like to see him give the ball to the RBs more. I know he can run like a deer and he's been effective running the ball. HOWEVER, it's become too predictable. Needs to give it to the RBs more.
Speaking of RBs, they need more carries. I'm concerned about Justice Haynes. Don't know if he's hurt or he's lost his confidence but he is nowhere near the runner he was last year. Last year, he'd run angry and with authority. This year, not so much. If he's hurt, rest him and put Richard Young out there. That dude runs angry and hard. Very physical runner.
The pass protection from the RBs has been inconsistent. Yesterday, Haynes was supposed to get a chip block on the defensive lineman and he totally whiffed and Milroe got sacked. That's not good enough.

Probably the most solid take I've read this morning.
Everyone is shitting on Wommack but the players aren't executing the damn plays. We have busted coverages from a very young secondary and seasoned LBs that have seemingly forgot how to tackle. You don't tackle SEC players above the chest. The DL is too inconsistent.
Personally, I don't like all the constant substitutions. Let players get in a groove. This is on both sides of the ball.
And, FFS can we try running the ball to the outside once in a while?
We all love Jalen but sometimes, a sack or throwing the ball away isn't the worst way a play can end. I agree with the poster about the return game. Henderson is going to run in a straight line hoping to run by everyone. Law and Adams have great vision and try to use their blocking.

What I keep seeing is guys waiting for contact instead of delivering it. I also see a lack of swarming to the ball. Either the guys are unsure about what to do, or they’re afraid of getting hurt.
quote:He falls back into staring down his primary when he knows the OL won’t hold up. We had at least 3 times I recall a tackle just let their really good DE just run free. Once I saw Proctor double the DT and just let #5 have a free go at Milroe. The RT simply can’t handle good DE alone.

Pavia got a bit dinged in their win v. Kentucky last night but they truly could go 8-4 if they continue to hone in their offense and find a handful of defensive plays. They ought to handle Ball State and be 5-2 heading into a home game v. Texas. End the season @Auburn, SCAR, @LSU, Tennessee.
If Pavia stays healthy, I think they probably go 6-6 at worst, 7-5 as the conservative estimate, maybe as good as 9-3. They do such a good job of compressing the game on teams and making offenses not treat possessions as flippantly as modern philosophies seem to see it (lots of boom or bust possessions).

what gets lost in Pavia mania is that they have fantastic OLine

Pavia is the ideal purely college quarterback for a modern option offense. He's patient and smart with the old school option aspects. Does a good job with the zone read mesh. Just good enough of a passer that he can hit the passes created by all the horizontal stretch of run scheme.
If Milroe had Pavia's vision and patience with the option plays, our backs would be chewing up more yards instead of having all these ineffective QB keeps. Milroe has made some good reads this season - and he's better at it than last year - but it has never been his strength. Part of being a good options quarterback is, I dunno how else to phrase it, being humble about your skills and just following the keys consistently rather than thinking "I can get around him." Pavia is a good athlete but not an elite one, so I think that aspect helps him flourish in their scheme.
Lets see how dinged up Pavia got v. Kentucky. We'll see how valuable he is to their success pretty quick if he's hobbled or unavailable.

They got 20 carries yesterday and were largely ineffective with neither able to break more than 3.5 yards per carry. As a team we ran 38 times for a paltry 104 yards. The O-line got their shite pushed in.
