Ou fans - RRS QB question...

I'm thinking that there is about 70% chance that the ou offense runs into trouble and Coach V is looking for a spark. I know you don't think it will happen, but for the sake of argument just humor me, and go down this path for a moment.
Does he pull Hawkins and go back to Jackson Arnold? Or has that ship sailed? Or, does he throw Casey Thompson into the fire? He actually has Red River experience, and may be a better option. What say you sooner fans?

I actually watched some Sooner gossip videos discussing this very point. Whether they actually know anything or not is to be determined, but these were the points I harvested.
1) There has been some effort to keep Jackson Arnold engaged as the backup, but it is a certainty he is transferring at the end of the year, and OU will ride with Hawkins all the way unless an injury situation occurs.
2) Casey Thompson is focused on trying to become a college coach. Doubtful he sees anything meaningful action.

Outside of an injury to Hawkins, i don't see JA coming back in. Hawkins decision making is so much better than JA. Arnold had been a turnover machine in all of his starts. I dont think sitting on the bench has changed that.

Short of injury there is zero chance he pulls Hawkins.
Now what about Ewers? Will Sark pull him in favor of the anointed one if things look bleak?

I think some fans may be yelling for that should he get a case of the yips.

Ewers can't come out with the ridiculous turnovers like in last year's game. That said, Manning isn't a perfect substitute for what Ewers brings in the short and medium passing game. Manning is capable of beating OU, but the playcalling surely changes in he is in the game instead of Ewers while it is undecided.

There's no "certainty" he's transferring. It wouldn't surprise anybody but there's no "certainty".

I was at the game last year and I remember at least 2 separate occasions we had a receiver running wide open on a busted coverage but Ewers either checked down or threw the ball away running from a little pressure. Those are the moments I think Manning takes advantage of. But he still has lots to learn and has not been baptized by a good defense yet.

Manning is a better deep ball thrower than Ewers. His play action skills would be ideal for the 2000s games when OU would load the box and dare the Texas QB to beat them over the top. On the other hand, I think Ewers helps the running backs more on every play with his better reads in the RPO plays.
I have no idea how either coach will scheme this game, but it looks to be very exciting.

Hawkins is probably one of the fastest QBs in CFB right now if not THE fastest, and has an elite arm. He needed some reps but is basically in no danger of being replaced. Hes the future at OU, they have known that since spring ball.

I don’t see Casey Thompson playing at all this year …. Arnold would come in . Hawkins is OUs starter . No one can say anyone won’t get pulled because OU has done it 3 years in a row and won 2.

I think Sark should play both this week.
Ewers starts
Series 1 - scripted plays for Ewers
Series 2 - regular series
Arch comes in
Series 3 - scripted plays
Ewers plays rest of the game
Next game.. Rinse and repeat.
This is Quinn's team, but Arch can add value without a QB controversy.

Arch would also create a qb controversy by scoring TD's when he is in there.

My thoughts:
If the pressure cooker makes Hawkins do stupid things, I doubt he'd throw JA out there. At least I wouldn't. I mean why would you, when you have a very experienced vet in Thompson who has actually played well in this game before?

Hawkins has to have 3-4 turnovers in the first half.....but OU is still in the game for Arnold to get a chance. Arnold is gone, unless Hawkins has some catastophic injury.

From what I've seen, Arch has some wheels that Ewers doesn't necessarily have. I don't think Sark would throw his young QB out there and expect him to run many designed QB run plays, but Venables defenses (and pretty much everyone else's) sometimes have difficulty containing true run threat QBs.
If Ewers exited with an injury, that would be interesting dynamic to watch.
