The Red Skull's Red Hot Seat: OU's streak of lucky coaching hires is up.

Before the bleating of "herp derp Defensive Genuis!11", let me lay out a thesis:
We all know that OU has been quite fortunate to not have to wander the proverbial desert between winning head coaches (and Lord knows we had our share of wandering with Strong & Mensa), what this post presupposes, is that it's now their turn in the barrel.
Venables suffered a most embarrassing 49-0 in the Red River Shut-out. He doesn't seem to be as elite a recruiter as OU has been conditioned to and it appears they are a 4 loss team this year, at worse.
And he doesn't seem to have a pulse on how to recruit, coach or keep a great QB.
Venables might have no skin on his face but he has skin in the game-- his future is one as a DC somewhere. He's not a serious head coach.
My questions, then, are:
1) Why doesn't OU fans see this? Is it that they can't be objective and it's the same reason it took us a while to move on from our obvious failures? Too close to the situation?
2) What will it take for OU to see that Venables is a disgusting skeletor and should be fired for someone more appropriate to lead a Blue Blood program?

Venables may or may not be him, but if you were an actual Texas fan, you would know why 49-0 happened. They had no QB. Riley took all of the good players. It was a complete rebuild.
Go play with one of your other alters.

Seems like an overreaction for the time being, he has a .645 winning percentage.
For a comparison, Sark is .682.

I indirectly laid that (no good QB) at the feet of old Skeleton Bones.
Good to great QB"s don't want to play for him; he can't recruit, coach or keep any good QB's.
Meanwhile, in Austin, we have two of the top 10 QB's in the nation.
At the end of the day, "I'm here for it" as the kids say, and hope that OU accepts and wallows in mediocrity for as long as possible before ripping the bandaid off.
Give the marvel character a lot of rope to try and succeed, it's better for us.

Don't be gay; nobody likes anyone on here.

The more I think about it...
The obvious move, if you think are a power broker and in the S-tier of Texas, Alabama, etc., is to steal Heupel from Tenn.
If the prodigal son returns home, that's a problem for many and a coup for OU.
OU is overnight the most hated program in Knoxville until the dust settles, it would help OU gracefully pivot from the skeleton king and also give some psychological abuse to Tennessee that OU is their daddy (a la Texas stealing Schloss from aggy and reminding them of their inferiority).
That's the move.

Brent Venables looks like the guy you hire to paint your house and never shows up. Then you learn he was locked up for a DUI + driving on a suspended license.

Still sucks. It's still sucks.

Oklahoma decided they wanted to play defense and that's what they got.
Since they've come to the SEC, it might end up being a smart decision in the long run.

When OU beat texass in 2003 by a 52 pt margin or in 2000 by a 49 pt margin, did you ask these questions of your beloved Mack Brown or are you even old enough to remember those games?

I was at those games, bucko. Dark days, indeed.

Yet, even though, for the most part we've owned you, you guys still got a NC a few years later and Mac didn't start out with a decimated team like Brent did. I'm not saying BV is the next Barry Switzer but he deserves more time. If things don't improve fast on the offense tho, he better find a new OC or he may not get it

Hey bucko, leave facts out of this

The OP is clueless...
But Riley didn't take all the good players. He took Caleb Williams, one receiver and one DB. OU was actually lucky in that Gabriel was pretty good.
Several other guys went into the draft after Riley left and that hurt Venables in '22.
OU's '22 team had 9-3 talent... but they couldn't close out games.
His '23 team lost two road games that their best defensive player (Stutsman got hurt).
They have serious problems on offense this year. But defensively they are getting a little better each year.

Explain why Red Skull has never had a decent QB and why that will change.
