You know, I hope he sells a bunch of those stupid things.
Dude hasn't had an easy life. Seems to have a learning disability and a drinking problem. And that kind of poverty is usually generational. He was almost certainly raised dirt poor.
I hope he at least made enough off his 15 minutes to have beer money for the rest of his life.

Lots grew up and grew better from bad situations. From my own life, I have zero empathy for him. He's an embarrassing stereotype. Good on him for cashing in, but it is no less embarrassing

I think you are just confused, Che. Roll Tide Willie is an actual mentally handicapped individual. Not the kind we joke about and how everyone thinks most all Tennessee fans may be mentally retarded.
He can't pull himself up by his bootstraps. You don't just snap out of that and start being normal by willpower and a desire to better one's self.
It's like thinking you can have a serious conversation with a completely crazy person that is walking around talking to themselves and slobbering. You aren't going to make them stop being crazy with logic; their brains no longer are capable of being rational or having normal thoughts based in reality.
Druski is a perfectly sane individual that pretends to be retarded and used Willie as a prop. Chad, his handler, is a "friend" who has also used Willie but does seem to be allowing Willie to reap some benefits from his usury.
Willie is at the mercy of those around him to survive. He doesn't have the capacity to do things of any importance for himself. It's not about coming out of poverty, or bad circumstances in life, and bettering yourself against the odds.
He is MENTALLY incapable of functioning on an adult level in any way whatsoever. It's not that he doesn't want to be normal, he can't be normal.
