Drug addiction is a terrible thing. 50 pills a day is insane, talk about lucky to be alive.

oxycontin and fentanyl
dude probably lucky he's still alive
on top of that, he wasn't just taking the pills, he was snorting them

I'm sure his drug dealer was dealing steroids as well, hell Cochran was probably supplying drugs

Crazy that he became a drug addict due to yelling too much.

I’ve known good people who’s lives were ruined due to OxyContin being handed out like candy.

Really good read. Glad to hear he's found a new passion and hope that keeps him on the wagon.

Yeah that was a powerful read. It takes a real man to get all that dirty laundry out in the open, just so he can help others.

Little side trivia:

Cochran grew up in Cajunbama's hometown of Metairie, LA. Like most of the kids in that neighborhood, Cochran grew up an LSU fan.

Hope Scott stays sober and continues to help others.

It beats running from bears, banjos and moonshiners like they do in the landlocked flyover state of Tennessee...

99% of the oxycontin resulting in deaths come from the southern boarder. Biden and his voters have blood on their hands.

So many crazy thoughts coming away from that story.

Prescribing OC or any other opioid for headaches is borderline malpractice. There are so many better options for treating migraines that it almost sounds like he was already seeking narcotics at that point. If that’s the case, being in a situation with direct access to the medical staff and a six figure salary was probably the worst place for him to be.

Also, the level of usage he reached is astounding. He was taking anywhere from 250-4,800 mg/day, although it was likely something closer to 300-1,500mg. For reference, a cancer patient with chronic pain might have been prescribed 240mg/day after extended treatment. Not to mention If he was buying that many pills off the street, he would have been spending tens of thousands of dollars a month on narcotics. Even worse, after relapsing, he thought he was using the same medication he abused in the past, but was buying counterfeit OC laced with fentanyl.

It’s sad and difficult to believe that no one noticed he had a problem, but in a world where winning is everything, it was an afterthought. He’s lucky he survived and it’s amazing that he’s made it far enough to be able to share his story. He was always a polarizing figure, so if he can use that same drive to help other people that are struggling with similar situations, he’s doing far better work than he ever did in a weight room or practice field.

This is probably the strangest part. There are so many signs, especially when someone is using THAT much. I find it almost implausible that no one around him noticed. Especially fentanyl.

Also odd that his wife didn't notice what had to be close to 6 figures a year go missing. I know he made good money but that's an insane amount.

I know a guy that hid taking pills for a while. His wife didnt find out until he wrecked two different vehicles in a 2 hour timeframe.

After the divirce the wife began to recall subtle memories such as one Christmas evening when he was sweating profusely on a front porch for no reason at all.
