This guy was on Freeze's staff for a while, but now does sports talk in MS with McCready. He talked for a while about what's going on at AU with the offense.

Basically he said he just does not understand why Thorne or Hank cannot "get it." He said he coached with Freeze for years and never saw a QB as confused as those guys.

On defense, he said Durkin is killing it and deserves credit for keeping AU in games where they should have been blown out.

I think this is right about the defense thus far, but the D also looks like better teams will probably shred it.

Pure speculation.

I do not understand why Auburn is a hex on passing offense. Always has been, but Freeze has to be persistent enough to press through.

I’m convinced Thorne has looked fine at practice but for some reason that dude just straight up panics during the game. Hank probably doesn’t quite have total command of the offense so it limits some play calls and his reads on some things aren’t quite there yet. I still think Hank is gonna have to be the answer for us to improve, just gonna have to take some lumps along the way,

Being patient is hard for fans- but it is the only way through at this point.

The people who never liked CHF will say “told you so.” I get it. He has a dubious past.

2024 will not likely be the year any of us hoped.

Every camp can find a justifiable thing to point to- some can rightly blame recruiting and roster, there are coaching decisions that don’t add up, there are points to make about execution of the offense, defense—-whatever.

Truth is- outside of interceptions by the QBs that are hard to understand the rest of it seems like what you would expect from a rebuild.

I think we have to just embrace the suck with the understanding that more top 10/5 recruits and a new QB can/will get us back on track.

It’s frustrating and painful- but I don’t see how starting over necessarily makes anything better.

he doesn't worry about getting hit in practice. Dude just does not like getting hit. You can see it on scrambles to the sideline. He could get first down yardage, and maybe get hit, but he will go out of bounds a half yard short of the line to gain.

And yet, Freeze wouldn’t pony up for Ward.

So who would you get rid of that is currently being paid to make up that difference for Ward? Which receiver(s)? Which linemen?

Seriously, either spend the money on Ward and not the other holes in our lineup or spread the money out and get more people. We aren't a QB away from being much better we have a ton of holes right now. Yeah it is that bad...

If I have a specific criticism/question about coaching it’s “did they prepare physically enough in fall camp”?

Some of the preseason press conferences made it sound like Freeze was so afraid of injuries that he tried to minimize full contact practice reps.

Might explain fumbles and int’s.

Good news is that’s something that can improve as players get more in game reps.

Also, if memory serves, Gus had a scrimmage where he made the QB’s live so he could evaluate who can play real football, not glorified 7-on-7

I generally agree with that, but this is one of the rare situations where the line is blocking well enough and the WRs are open, so dropping a better QB in should actually make a big difference.

With better QB play, Auburn is 4-0 right now. There are WRs running wide open every game. I’d say better QB play would 100% make this team much better.

I agree and I'd rather be a bad 4-0 team than a bad 2-2 team.

Yes, it is my speculation. This is a message board where people often post speculation and the soft secondary and pass rush lead me to speculate better teams will do well against it, especially if the offense continues to screw them over.

Fair enough. Pass rush from a talent standpoint is our strength. And the secondary looked much improved Saturday. Oklahoma shouldn't test them that much but we'll def get to see how real the improvement was Saturday after next.

The more I look at it, the more I think we may “click” at some point. When you watch the film they’re not that far off. I could be wrong but just statistically it seems likely that we’ll turn the ball over at the rate we’re doing it now’s

I hope so. I am ready for a 1000 yard receiver. Please be KLS.

The D would work a lot better without those 3 man fronts laid out on a silver platter in 3rd and long.

The offense put up okay numbers, but with so many turn-overs it will always be a disaster.
