LSU winning is bad for LSU because it gives you a false sense of hope about Les Miles. Bama losing should show recruits that there is lots of opportunity to play early at Bama. They need more playmakers in the passing game, lineman on both sides (blockers and passrushers) and better cover corners.

True to a point. However given that logic Mississippi State should have the #1 recruiting class in the SEC this year. And yet....

Good answer. Personally I find it impossible to pull for a team and a coach attempting to steal recruits from the state of Louisiana and LSU. We're currently in a battle with Saban and Alabama for one of top recruits in the nation and LSU people feel compelled to root for Bama's success because of the SEC connection. Makes no sense to me.

This is the thought that has been gnawing at me for a couple of years now. Never gave it much thougth before I started thinking about the recruiting impacts.

I am beginning to come around to this point of view - but it is hard to overcome a lifetime of pulling for da family = SEC ALL THE WAY.

I will try again next year.

I seriously doubt that. But it sure was nice to see them knocked off of that shakey pedestal they had pasted together and jumped up on. It'll be interesting to see what happens to them next year.

Didn't Shula have a pretty good season a year or two before he got canned? Seems like I recall us going over there and whipping 'em when they we 9-0 or 10-0 or something like that.

I completely agree. The urge to pull for SEC teams is overwhelming. The desire to pronounce SEC dominance is powerful... For the record I had no problem pulling for Vandy and Kentucky this bowl season. But Bama is another story. Any success LSU enjoys in the future may be determined by whether or not we defeat the Tide. Saban actively recruits in Louisiana. His success is most likely detrimental to our success. I was not pulling for Bama or Ole Miss yesterday.

Most recruits these days want to play early over anything else. At Bama even with a 12-2 team that opportunity clearly exists.

Bama is the only SEC team I cannot bring myself to pull for in bowl games. Never have and never will, unless they play Notre Dame.

Alabama/Nick Saban losing to a team like Utah in New Orleans is probably the BEST thing that could ever happen to LSU and LSU recruiting this decade - especially with Nick Saban trying so hard to pick off recruits in the state of Louisiana. If that doesnt help Les Miles seal the state off to future recruits, I don't know what will. Lots of young NOLA high school kids saw last night that Nick Saban isnt the college coaching genius that everyone made him out to be.

that is just stupid. what team doesn't play better with better players?? the fact is, would you rather play for a coach that will be around for a long time, doesnt throw you under the bus?? helps you grow into a better person and young man? or a coach who rips your head off every time you make a mistake, while lies flow from his mouth like water

I think what may be clear is Saban's willingness to play freshman whereas Les is prone to give the nod to upperclassman. That may or may not be a factor with recruits. If you listen to Russel Shepard speak initial playing time was not a consideration for him when selecting LSU. At certain positions Alabama is loaded for next season so there is not a clear path to PT for some recruits.

Starting time is available at reciever, tight end, all over the OL and DL, and corner at Bama. dreaux be careful what you wish for with Miles. How soon you forget the rest of season.

Lets see here, LSU won National Championship last year and is having a stellar recruiting class. Why should anyone have a false sense of hope about Les?

Seriously, what is there a false sense of hope about? Miles is a good coach. As good as or better than Saban. Why do people constantly try to say that he is not in the same class as Spurrier, Saban, Stoops, Carrol, Meyer etc; are beyond me. shite people were saying before the bowl game with ND that he wasn't as good as Charlie Weiss.
