I can't remember when there were more teams capable of winning the SEC championship...especially since there are no divisions.

It's going to be very interesting right to the last game of the season. I guess that's what they were shooting for.

With the potential of multiple SEC teams making the playoffs, and competing for a national championship, the SEC championship is way less interesting.

It’s a play in game for a top 4 seed. Way more interesting bc whoever loses will still make the playoffs but now has an extra game added to their season to make the championship

Do you think we would have as many teams in contention for the playoffs if we still had divisions, as well as, interest as high for the SEC championship?

I guess it's a matter of preference but it's way more interesting to me if the loser of the SECCG has a chance of missing the playoffs instead of it being guaranteed that they'll be in it.

It was like a playoff game itself before. Now, meh.

winning the SEC championship gets you a first round bye in the playoffs, which is huge...the question is how much will it hurt the SECCG loser.

The interesting thing would be if there was a 3rd place team that would miss the SECCG.

Say 3 teams have 1 loss each. 2 would play in the SECCG, the 3rd would sit out.

The winner of the SECCG would get a first round bye, but would have had to play the second best team in the conference while the 3rd place team would miss that game but play someone (maybe a G5?) in the first round of the play offs.

Would it be better to be in 3rd place there than to play in the SECCG?

That's supposing that 3 SEC teams would make the playoffs in any given season. At this point we've yet to see how the committee will approach selecting teams for the playoffs.

I think it will hurt a lot less than it has in the past.

Like Ga last year
I think they were the best team not to play in the NC game last year.

But this year they'd be a shoe in for the playoffs.

So the SECCG last year was interesting because of that. If it happened this year, and UGA made the playoffs anyway, it's a lot less interesting.

B1G is the only other conference with teams that have a realistic shot of winning it all, but with the SEC dominating the top 25 it will be a huge letdown if one of our teams doesn't take the crown.

The loser of the CCG receives the following: one more loss to the season total, more chances for season ending injuries and/or bumps and bruises.

Moral of the story is...if you can't win the damn thing you're better off sitting in 3rd place.

one perk to losing the SECCG is that you would get a home game in the first round.

Yeah.

I mean winning the SEC Championship would nice, but other than a 1st Rd bye what does it really mean? It is as meaningful as being the #1 seed in the NFC or AFC heading into the playoffs.

Yeah.

The SECCG game really just means the winner gets a first round bye and the loser plays a home game.
