Florida Fans, thoughts on Mertz starting?

If so, Florida will be looking for a new coach in just a few weeks. Might be the first coach ever bought out by the fanbase

We all knew Mertz was going to start regardless of how DJ played.

We have question marks all over the place, and we’ll be playing a very wounded/cornered Gator team at their place. But crazy enough, OL is looking like one of our strongest units, which is never the case.

It didn't appear Lagway had any packages for Miami, which is pretty ridiculous of Napier.
Both should be on the field but it's obvious that Lagway can do somethings that Mertz can't do. He has to be on the field quite a bit. That leads me to believe that Napier will find a way to play Mertz 100% of the time.
The wild card here is that, apparently, Lagway has been dinged up a bit. They may decide that he needs a week of rest. I think I saw on X that he's gotten 2x MRI's so far. Maybe a shoulder? Not sure.

Last year Mertz was good.
2023 comp/att 261/358 pct. 72.9 yds 2,903 TDS 20 Int 3 rating 157.8
Miami looks good this year and Samford is a far cry from that status. Don’t confuse the 2. But Lagway did look composed.
