My top three picks that have a chance to be this years surprise team are:

1. Tennessee
2. Florida
3. South Carolina.

Hate to say it, but I'm going with aggy. I think Elko fits aggy culture better than Jimbo.
2. Florida
3. Bama. Bama could have a nice rebound season.

Unless Vandy rolls, I'm not sure the SEC has any surprise teams.

Everyone thinks Mizzou was a one-hit wonder, but I'm going to say this team is a darkhorse to challenge for the crown.

Brady Cook is the most non-respected QB in the country; 3300+ yds, 21 Tds, only 6 ints and nearly a %70 comp. That RB, Noel kid they got from App st is small but he can flat out FLY. They catch alot of grief on this cesspool of a forum, like everyone else, but I'm calling it now, this team will be DANGEROUS.

After them, NO one seems to think Ole miss is for real, but only someone who is in absolute denial or are just ignorant about the game of football would not think this team is going to be loaded and can beat ANYBODY. I fear our game with them more than I fear playing Bama OR Texas.

I think Mizzou is a one-hit wonder.

I think we have a lot of potential to be the dark horse, what with the new coaching staff, talented roster, and easy schedule.

However, I think the biggest surprise will be Auburn. I think they're going to shock some people.

Tenner peaked at #1 for 4 days and is back on its way down for another 25 years.

Okie is the only ‘capable’ this season that would be a surprise

Everyone thinks this? I thought it was just a few ranters that refuse to believe mizzou is in the SEC.

Most rankings have mizzou between 8-13 going into next year. Offense will be better than last year, defense will probably be about the same..

While returning nearly the whole offense, defense will be good, and a easier schedule.

Mizzou for me...

They are talented and will/can go toe to toe with just about errybody in the SEC, but their unis and stadium look like a group of 5/FCS team. They'll damn sure lull you to sleep and sneak the frick up on you tho...

Didn't know a team needed to rebound from winning the SEC and making the playoffs.

Hey, at least he presented a well-reasoned and sober analysis of why HE expects we could challenge. Much more than many others on this board stop to consider.

What strikes me as strange is even with these lofty preseason polls, I don’t see a lot of love in the DISCUSSIONS about Mizzou and how they will fare in the SEC by the talking heads and writers. Maybe I’m just watching/ reading the wrong things.

I think OU will be better than where they were selected. So will Arkansas.

I think A&M will be the surprise team.

I think Florida will be a surprise somewhat. They’re written off by a lot of folks because their schedule is so tough, but they actually have a solid team. I say somewhat, because with that brutal of schedule I don’t see them competing for a playoff spot or anything too significant, but they’re not going to be complete garbage like some people think.

You really need to define what a "surprise" team is.

What is the criteria?
