How many schools have a legitimate shot at a football championship?

The number is incredibly small…I would say from our conference (in no particular order):

Alabama
Georgia
LSU
Texas
Oklahoma
Florida(eventually)

From elsewhere:

Michigan
Ohio State
USC (eventually)
Florida State
Washington
Oregon

Who am I glaringly missing? The point remains….you are not winning without elite talent, depth, and coaching. This eliminates damn near everybody. Would be interesting to see the aforementioned teams literally in a league of their own.

Ole Miss with a hot QB and a 12 team playoff. Plus he will be able talk directly to the QB with the new communication rule

While a larger playoff makes it easier for teams to get in, it also makes it harder for a team to ride a single player who's on fire to a title. The more games a team has to play against opponents with more talent on their team, the less likely they can get by with less talent.

I’ve got Auburn and Tennessee as honorable mention….both have the potential to check all the boxes, but it’s not going to happen with either of the current coaches. They’ve both got a long way to go. Penn State and Notre Dame aren’t within a thousand miles of winning a National Championship.

ND played for a NC in 2012 (I know they got murdered) and has two CFP appearances. Penn State has the resources to win the NC in my opinion.

Much like the Spanish Inquisition we have a tendency to come out of nowhere.

There is no way ND, with the current format, could beat 3 or 4 great teams to win it all…they just don’t recruit well enough anymore, and I don’t think they ever will again. I don’t think they’ve lovingly embraced NIL.

THIS. No matter how far the media is up their bottom they are not elite.

I get you are Bama fan level dumb, but Auburn will compete for championships sooner rather than later.

You need more than half of your roster consisting of blue chippers.

Otherwise, you need a dynamic, once in a generation type of QB at your school.

Cam at Auburn
Vick at Va Tech
Lamar at L'ville etc.
