As we bid farewell to the SEC divisions, below are the rivalries that most often decided the SEC West Champion…. Defined as one of the two teams played in the Championship, but had the regular season matchup gone the other way, then the other team would have played:
1. Auburn vs LSU (5 times)
The Auburn-LSU game ultimately decided the West in 1997, 2000, 2001, 2005, and 2007. LSU won 3 of those and represented the West in Atlanta, while Auburn won twice.
2. Alabama vs LSU (4 times)
Alabama-LSU decided they West in 1996, 2011, 2012, and 2022… the teams split those contests 2-2.
3. Arkansas vs Auburn (3 times)
Arkansas-Auburn decided the West Champion in 1995, 2002, and 2006. All three were won by the Hogs.
4 (tie). Alabama vs Auburn (2 times)
The Iron Bowl decided the West in 2013 and 2017 with Auburn winning both times.
4 (tie). Alabama vs Miss St (2 times)
Alabama-Miss St decided the West in 1999 and 2014, with Bama winning both contests.
These games decided the West one time, with the winner listed first:
Arkansas vs Alabama (1995)
Alabama vs Ole Miss (2021)
Arkansas vs LSU (2002)
Miss St vs Arkansas (1998)
LSU vs Ole Miss (2003)

It’s the most Auburn thing ever that both times the Iron Bowl decided the West, we won… but all three times the game against Arkansas decided the West, we lost.
Also RIP Auburn vs. LSU

Game was irrelevant to the standings.

You left off Ole Miss Alabama 2023, had the Rebels won they'd have tied at 7-1 and would have gone to Atlanta.

Another way to look at it:
SEC West Championships:
15- Alabama
7- LSU
6- Auburn
3- Arkansas
1- Miss St
Times each team fell one game short in a game that decided the Division:
6- Auburn
5- Alabama, LSU
2- Miss St, Ole Miss
1- Arkansas

Ole Miss fell a game short 4 times, you're not counting 2015 or 2023 here.

I did not think those years were cool….
Especially 2006 when Auburn had risen to #2 in the country, only to get run all over by Arkansas inside JHS.

LOL. Nice spin
Alabama won the western division more times than LSU and Auburn combined

Doesn’t work within the context of the definition of a game that deciding the West. The game had to result in if that one game had gone the other way, the other team would have won the division.
You beat Bama in 2015 but still finished behind them in the standings, so that game outcome reversed would have no relevance.
In 2023, Bama was 8-0 and Ole Miss was 6-2, so that for sure doesn’t work.

Two more that were probation asterisks
1993 Iron Bowl- Auburn won the west and beat Bama but Bama went because AU couldn't
2002- Bama vs Arkie- Bama wins the west and beats Arkie but Arkie goes because of same reason.

Incorrect
If Alabama defeats LSU in 2019, both teams finish with one loss and Alabama goes to Atlanta because of their head-to-head win.

Once again, if Ole Miss wins Ole Miss advances to Atlanta and Bama goes home because of an identical record and a head-to-head victory for Ole Miss.
Interesting post, but a lot of inaccurate information is being thrown around.
