We are looking to buy a golf cart. We have one of those neighborhoods where they are welcomed and I have some real jealousy going on watching these things cruise around. I think we just need a 4 seater, so seats where golf clubs would go. I think we want electric (no massive hills in our neighborhood and I don’t feel like buying gas for another thing).

Are there traps I need to be wary of? Any brands to look for/avoid? Lessons learned from others who have bought one before?

How much am I looking to pay?

Lithium battery. No exceptions. Lead acid are a pain in the arse.

I just bought a black Epic E40L and love it. Top speed is 25 MPH. I don't max it out the whole time when going to downtown BSL but it's about 10 miles round trip from our camp and usually takes up 40-50% battery life. The soundbar that comes with it is awesome too. For the most part ours will only get used on weekends so I was told by a friend to avoid gas.

Really depends on what you want to spend. and how old/new you want it. Id look into the differences in ezgo/clubcar/yamaha. decide iff you want a 36v or a 48 volt.

you can save money getting a course cart and putting your own back seat, suspension, tires on it.

Buy Club Car or E Z Go, parts are much easier to come by than the hundred other brands mostly made in China. Also, buy one with Lithium batteries, they are lighter (because you only need one vs six in a 48v) and last many times longer than lead acid. If it doesn’t come with a lithium, it’s fairly easy to upgrade yourself.

Lithium battery.
All lithium batteries are made in China.
I bought the monarch 6 seater new for $14k.
Street legal with top speed around 37.
They can program to lower speed and help battery life.

One thing to consider is to see how much one would cost that is street legal.

Depending on your area, it may be illegal if it doesn’t have turn signals or brake lights.

Some places like Grand Isle use the golf cart registration process as a gold mine for revenue.

I think it is 150 dollars a year to register for a golf cart tag on the island and you have to abide by certain rules.

In the city of New Orleans, some entrepreneurs are running golf carts in the city streets and they are registered with state taxi plates with running lights.

Spend the money and just buy nice Yamaha. You won't regret it.

Don’t buy from Ascension Golf Carts. Shitty service. We spent $20,000 on ours and it’s not worth it. Service after the sale is nonexistent. They got my money and that’s all they care about.

With how much golf carts cost I don’t understand why more people don’t buy a side-by-side. Cost of replacing the batteries is insane too. Definitely find a used.
