you have to be offered a job to get it. Dabo would/shoudl have been choice number like 10-15 on bama's list and it never would've gotten that far. Dabo is by far the most overrated coach in the game today. I've posted the full stats countless times and don't feel like searching for them again but Dabo is essentially a worse version of mark richt in a weaker conference, that jsut so happened ot have two "generational" (although I hate that term) QBs almost back to back. Without a 1st overall pick bonafide NFL starter at QB he has done practically nothing. In fact, there was a 1-year gap sandwiched in between deshaun/trevor, and in that year they managed to lose to an 8-loss syracuse team and got shellacked by bama and didn't even score 7 points.
Dabo at bama would have been glorious for all onlookers but would have been an utter disaster for both bama and him.
I agree 100% with this, additionally he had a great DC (Venables) and a steady stream of NFL ready D-linemen

Is it "possible" to transfer out of these? I
Pretty sure you can transfer out of the Academies before your senior year. Once you pass that threshold, I don't think you can leave the school because they have committed too much to the cadet and the cadets are bound to fulfill their service duties.

Georgia is going to smoke them. Similar to Georgia Oregon in Atlanta 2 years ago.
I don’t think we will ever see a “top 10” beat down again like what uga did to Oregon. That was a massacre.

Could Service Academy athletics soon cease to exist? It would be an interesting court battle with the ground that has been laid by the courts to date in re: to this subject. Would hate to see it, but I could see it happening and the Academies becoming strictly academic institutions.

I forget if it was 21 or 22, but one of UGA's NC seasons, zero transfers were taken in.

Hasn't really come close to making the postseason since Venables left.

Maybe not quite as dominant but Clemson will not hang with Georgia. 38-13 at the very best.

A solid and astute point. Georgia under Kirby has also taken out a key pipeline into the state that Clemson was utilizing beforehand.
Also, I’m usually not one to subscribe to “sign stealing” rumors but when almost every coach they played in the ACC has publicly verified Clemson was notorious for stealing signs — and then their run of success comes to a screeching halt once this was public knowledge — kind of hard to ignore.

Whether you like the portal or not, it exists. If you have 9 players transfer out, what are going to do to replace them? wait for the next recruiting class? It just doesn't make any sense. Ahead coach's job is to win, not to hurt the team in an effort not to hurt someone's feelings.

Byrne mentioned this in one of his press releases, without naming names. It was clear who he was talking about, and I think everyone knew then that Dabo hadn’t been considered.

Identifying and bringing in two generational QB's is something he did in fact accomplish though.
Dabo is a pretty good recruiter, especially when you consider Clemson isn't a destination school. And he's done solid to extremely well at hiring good assistants and keeping them for long periods.
Having just those two things is enough to have a lot of success in the college game and Dabo has had that. However his hatred of the transfer portal/NIL stuff is wiping out the edge he had with his ability to recruit.
I would never hire Dabo as an OC. He doesn't have those skills. But he's a top tier pre-NIL head coach. He's not adjusting to NIL well at all.

9 isn't that hard to handle.
You can have 85 players on scholarship. If you had 0 losses to transfer or the NFL and you kept each class with the same number of guys with no redshirts at all, that would mean you'd bring in 21 players each year.
UGA and Bama brought in 28 players this past class. Nebraska brought in 31. If you recruit enough players you can handle a loss of 9 players a season through HS recruiting.
The issue is Clemson's last class was 22 guys.. The three classes before that were 26, 21 and 19 players from high school. They DIDN'T handle things numbers wise.

Clemson claims to have 84 on scholarship right now.

Wondering how many walk-ons got scholarships to make that happen?
Or perhaps they had a lot of Covid seniors over the past few years to make the numbers work. With their signing classes they signed 92 players the last 4 seasons and lost 9 to transfers just this one offseason.
92-9 = 83. Even with redshirts from 5 classes ago and prior year guys transferring in added in, when you take out prior years transfers from these same classes and guys who left early for the NFL... it's tough to see how the numbers work.
UGA had 24 outgoing transfers in this last "portal season". But we have huge high school recruiting classes every year and had 9 incoming
transfers. Maybe Clemson's losses are still small enough to handle even with small high school classes.

Dabo has made 100 million bucks since he took the whistle at Clemson (with the game passing him by. Good one sport.
The internet.

He's going to get his wish. I'm still trying to imagine how this would have gone over had he gotten the BAMA job.
I get the sense that he's trying to honor a promise to his team, to stick with the guys who came and stayed instead of bringing in a lot of free agents. Might be the only way he holds the locker room together, instead of being shown as a blatant liar.
But give him a fresh start, and those promises aren't in place.

Now that this is a perceived flaw to his coaching style even his focused concentrations such as HS recruiting will suffer. Nobody wants a coach that is unwilling to adapt.
