Seeing how there are basically no rules on transferring, paying players, etc…

What is preventing a kid from playing 6-7 years (or more) of college football or basketball? As example -
The “sit out a year” transfer rule never had any foundation in logic. Supposedly it was to “allow the student time to acclimate to new school” when really it was a means to benefit coaches. Now though, the NCAA is basically allowing kids to transfer whenever a kid wants, because the NCAA knows that if challenged in court about the transfer rule, they will lose.
So is the “rule” that a kid has 5 years to play 4 any different? If some kid is making $300k in NIL but has already played his NCAA mandated maximum years of football but wants to play more college football and earn that money, does the NCAA have a legal leg to stand on to tell him he can’t?
The NCAA loses every case they are involved with because their rules deny basic rights. If a kid wants to continue to take classes (cough, cough) and play for 6+ years, how could the NCAA stop him if it’s legally challenged?

We can keep following this rabbit hole and ask…..
Since kids are now getting paid to play, they are professionals, so what prevents an NFL player who has been cut from his team, from coming back to college and playing and getting paid?

Academic progress criteria in the NCAA

it’s all about to change..
it will be a full blown lower level NFL in no time.. maybe college names are used to keep the fans.. but it’s all going to change
unfortunately

APR applies to “student athletes receiving financial aid”. A kid making $300k in NIL doesn’t need financial aid and wouldn’t be counted in the APR.

all the rules
all that we know
that is my opinion
i think there will be a new league
with equal revenue sharing
between “schools” and “players”
a college draft
possible NFL affiliation
possible trades of draft picks
endless possibilities..
none of which are good for the college game I love.. but I’m sure I will still watch if it is tied to Texas.. but it’s gonna be different

Eligibility ends when going pro but who knows how it will go if taken to court.

You are looking at it wrong. The the APR and graduation success rates are different than individual academic progress towards a degree requirement.
But again UGA might be onto something. The eligibility clock of 5 to play 4 only begins when you enroll full time. Since the requirement to play does not include full time enrollment, just 6 hours with milestones thrown in, it would be feasible for your clock to not start until your 2nd year in school.
In theory you could dress out with the team for summer, spring, and winter doing 6 hours a term on scholarship or NIL for 2 years as long as you picked up an extra 12 hours in short terms(ie maymester). That would keep you hitting your 40% by the end of year two without starting your clock. So you could in theory leave at the end of your 3rd year without a degree, completely eligible without every enrolling as a full time student with your 5 to play 4 intact for a different sport. You could literally pay for the best clinic/ coaches for private workouts, do 6 hours of class online, attend the schools practice, utilize the S&C and nutrition programs and show up for game day.

They will eventually be able to play into their 40's.
